I know this isn’t a huge deal but i have always ‘activated’ MD before picking my target, you can’t do this anymore because your character seems to cast misdirect on… nothing? (if you dont have a target) and then the ‘activation’ is gone. You can only misdirect with macros and must have a target now.
Can you just keep misdirect how it’s always been?
I’m getting the same issue, all I get is a “Invalid Target” error" if I don’t target my focus target.
To the best of my knowledge misdirect has always required a target. The only time abilities don’t require targets is when they are aoe/ground targeting or cast on your self. There may have been a bug where misdirect was casting on self (the Hunter) making it pointless
/cast [@focus,help,nodead][@pet,nodead]Misdirection

Yeah. It needs a target. I use the macro that sets my target as my pet.

Yeah there is a macro that will misdirection on your focus if you have picked one, or it will misdirection on your pet if you do not have a focus.
seems like misdirection is triggering the auto self cast setting, and then returning an error because you can’t cast it on yourself. turning self cast to “none” makes misdirect behave the way it did before the patch

Thank you, I was wondering what they changed, and that was it.
I’ve always needed a target to use misdirection? Pretty sure the game doesn’t let you use the ability unless you have a target or a macro.

they mean they could press misdirect while they didn’t have a friendly target selected, it’d highlight the cursor with a blue outline, and then they’d click on a friendly target to cast it. that’s how it always worked for me as well, outside of macros. now trying to do that returns an error if you have auto self cast turned on

Has anyone found a fix for this? Search pulled up threads from 2020 but surely this hasn’t been bugged for 5 years? I’ve tried different variations for the macro. These basic ones return “Invalid target” unless I’m actually targeting my pet directly.
/cast [@focus] Misdirection
/cast [@pet] Misdirection
I use this.
#showtooltip
/cast [@focus,help][help][@pet,exists] Misdirection
It’ll Misdirect to a target, your focus, or your pet if you don’t have either.
There’s a weakauras that will switch MS to your pet unless you’re in a group, which it will then switch to the tank.
It requires a macro, but you’ll never need to select your target again to MS.
This macro works fine:
#showtooltip
/cast [@pet] Misdirection
