Minion Aggro Nerf?

Has anyone noticed their Voidwalker not holding aggro after the War Within Season 2 patch?

I play an Affliction warlock and up until the War Within Season 2 patch, I had no issues with my Voidwalker holding aggro. After the patch yesterday I notice a drastic change and my Voidwalker barely seems to be able to hold aggro at all. As far as I can tell Consuming Shadows, Threatening Presence, Shadow Bulwark, and Suffering are all set to auto-cast.

Whether it be on a single target or in a group of enemies, the enemies seem to almost instantly lose interest in my VW and focus on me instead. In fact, in groups of enemies, I’ll send my VW to attack a primary target and without me even attacking the secondary enemies at all they will target and attack me.

I’m not even going all out on damage - all I will cast is Agony and Wither and I will still draw aggro. If I understand correctly those spells got a slight damage buff but nothing that would cause my VW to so drastically not be able to hold aggro.

Edit: I guess it was a bug. It seems to have returned to normal, at least for the time being. I’m not sure what caused it or what made it revert and I really hope it doesn’t happen again.

Potentially a bug? Historically Warlock has so many. I haven’t tested it as I’m not playing until Warlock has a serious examination (Most likely Midnight).

I’d really like to think this is simply a bug and not some intentional change. I just haven’t seen anyone else me tion anything like it so far.

VW has had trouble holding aggro for a while now, was kinda hoping they’d fixed it by now.

It isn’t just voidwalker, Felguard isn’t holding aggro at all.

It got worse.

T11 delves shreds my VW.
I end up face-tanking most of it last night.

Man, that’s all a bit concerning.

Yes, I noticed that. Last night, level 8 Earthcrawl Mines, the new variant with the pustules. There were multiple problems - VW wouldn’t keep aggro on anything. Worse though, when I blew away one of the pustules, the VW stayed in combat with it. After every fight he’d power back there to fight it, nevermind that it was in the opening hallway, and I was upstairs. I had to put him on passive and direct every movement. The only bright spot was that I guess wither was on a bunch of those things permanently, so I got a non-stop nightfall proc. But buggy omg.

Tested your concern for fun. The Voidwalker was unable to hold threat against Brann’s massive 43.9k dps + a miniscule amount of hps while he was speced as a healer, this was performed against a single target. The only times the VW would regain aggro was on the taunt cool-down, meaning the base threat generation was immediately falling behind the threat being generated by Brann.

That could be due to the new gear levels, depending on what you’re doing.
My Felguard generally holds aggro pretty well, though Brann is still prone to steal it (not that I really mind, to be honest!).

Been doing that since TWW launched.

100% it has got worse, I find putting Brann as tank (even though he eats the floor 85% of the time) and Voidy out solves the issue

Brann healer is dying a lot because he out-threats / out-dps the VW.

And VW gets chunked despite me speccing into all pet talents right of the tree.

I will be repeating myself this time, No, aggro did not get nerfed.

People need to understand that Aggro is a value based on your damage+healing and your threat modifier.

No matter if your modifier is 300% or 400% or 1000%, if the disparity in damage is large enough it will lose aggro.

Primary Pets, specially for Destruction and Affliction are extremely weak in terms of how much damage they do and this does grow worse as the ilvl goes up because some effects buff the player more than the pet (Aff/Destro Mastery, Tiersets , Cantrips in general).

Demonology suffers less than this in pure single target because so much of your damage is a multitude of different pets with their own aggro meanin the aggro they generate is not on you but on the pets, but it can still happen in AOE (due to Implosion) or if you burst too quickly.

TLDR, Aggro isn’t nerfed, you/brann are just doing more damage/healing in relation to the pet causing it to be out’aggroed.

We been saying this every few xpacs.
And it will get worse with every Season iL jump.

Which is why they really need a way to improve VW threat generation that’s not based its damage. Maybe they could base it off its health so it only lost threat when its health dropped too low.

There might be some funny shenanigans going on with Health Funnel in Delves.

for a while as in 20 years

I noted this week especially the void can’t hold agro almost at all myself. I’m not sure what’s going on exactly

Legion, BfA and SL pets held aggro, even non-tank pets for a short time.
