Currently, this isn’t possible. There is a perk that allows you to mine/gather herbs while riding a mount and this includes static flying mounts.
However, if attempting to do this while in flight form you cannot mine and will be dismounted. This is a non issue for flight form since we’ve always been able to gather herbs.
This wouldn’t be a big deal if it weren’t for the fact our flight form is getting dragon riding animations in the prepatch. Hopefully with the new War Within professions they allow us to flight form while mining.
I know the post will get the usual trolls that come whenever druids ask for anything, but I was always in favor of other classes getting our herbing/mining while mounted perks.
its become clear that Ion and crew are showing their druid hate, in addition to the old flight hate that they seem to not be able to get over, lol.
I dont have a problem making it so druids dont have that advantage anymore farming herb nodes, but if ion is going to hamstring druids just out of spite, Im thinking my WoW days might be coming to an end.
NOt because of being hamstrug, but because Im getting more and more sick and tired of his ruining the spirit of this game and what better game directors did with it in the past
Oh cool. Might make my Druid my gatherer alt instead of my Mage then. Only things stopping me in Dragonflight was that Druid flight form was old flying only (I prefer skyriding), and the fact that they couldn’t mine too.
I would do it with my Dracthyr, but alas, they have to land to gather and are dismounted. Heh, so I may as well take advantage of that beautiful new owl form Druids got.
Have to admit that I am jealous you guys will prolly be able to do the skyriding races in your flight form when I can’t with Soar, but c’est la vie.
We can skyride while in flight form, i did test it. It can be finnicky, it might try to auto mount you, but you can shapeshift before the race starts. Its nice to have a smaller model to see better.
The way our gathering works is that anyone is able to mine or herb while mounted, but they need to get enough profession points to get to the bottom of a skill tree.
Druids in flight form will be able to do it from the start without the talent, saving us time and profession points that we can use elsewhere.
The story of why you can collect herbs while you can fly needs some explanation.
I think it mostly stems from the notion of someone asking and/or Blizz implementing the ability for Druids to gather herbs (to “pick flowers”) while in Flight Form. Maybe because they could do it in other forms? Either way, it was allowed because it seemed “logical” at the time; mining did not, because you need a pickaxe for that. And because rocks were heavy.
Amusingly, Engineers were then able to craft a mount (Sky Golem) which is said to be specifically designed for collecting herbs. It started with that one, and I think the functionality simply got extended to all the others.
Mining has been left in the cold ever since it wasn’t “logical” when the capability was first made available… and while the extension of herb-gathering was applied to all mounts in a sort of “gamified” rationale, the same gamified convenience simply never got extended to mining.
Oh I know. I used a Druid for my gathering alt in Shadowlands since all I needed were herbs. I switched in Dragonflight to my Mage because I ended up needing both herbs and ore, and since Druids couldn’t skyride I figured why not use the Mage the Evoker replaced. Especially since, as you mentioned, you just needed to unlock the ability to stay on the mount.
Now that Druids will be able to skyride and gather ore in War Within, I was just gonna switch back. Heh, and if those two were not enough incentive, I really love those owl forms that you can get from the Emerald Dream. They are wonderful when they are flying.
Gathering in forms was probably a mistake but they needed something easy to prop up a lackluster class back then. Now it isn’t really needed but very hard to take something like that away after it is given.
Looks like currently if you have this talent and land in flight form you can indeed mine without it taking you out of form just like with herbalism. However, if you are hovering at all or not otherwise completely landed it’ll pop you out of flight form. just tested it a few times and it works thus far.
