Any word on if mining will be multiple attempts per node or if one round of hits will get all the content? Also, area-loot or will each corpse need to be accessed to loot it? Was there auto loot back then or did each item have to be selected?
Multiple Attempts per Node is the Vanilla style. I believe someone joked about the players forgetting, but I can’t remember the source.
No Area Looting either.
Multiple. If not then gg.
Area looting did not, and will not exist, it’s been heavily disagreed with here. Auto-Loot was accessed by shift-clicking the loot target.
There might be an auto-loot option since most people seem to not mind since the ability did exist back then.
I’m trying to remember, but if I struck a node and mined it, and then left… if you mined it later, you wouldn’t get any level up points, correct?
Argh it’s been a while…
I’ve got the same memory (or memory problem). My memories say that whoever got to the node first got it all. The only way a second player could get anything would be if the first player left something behind … like failed to take the gem or stone that came with the ore. If my memory is correct, if the node gave up ore, a gem, and a stone, you could click on each one to loot it. You could leave the stone behind if you wanted to, and THAT is all the second player would get.
Otherwise, if you were the second one to get there, you camped the node waiting for it to respawn.
Incorrect, when you use a node and do not loot the mats. The next person to use the node can gain a skill point if they are eligible.
Looting the material was not required for skill gain.
Also, if you kept the loot window open nobody else could lot the node. eg. when battling for thorium veins against another player on the same faction.
Yes. As a matter of fact you can answer 99% of these sorts of questions by checking what was in that game at the time of the 1.12 patch.
Expect anything and everything to work as it did in vanilla 1.12.
For mining at least, you can loot it 2-4 times (always random), it’s not just one attempt. Hmm I had thought if Player A loots first, Player B can loot immediately after as long as Player A finished their first animation and has not begun their second. However as soon as all ore in the node was looted, regardless if multiple players received an ore, it disappears.
Some people use to ask if I could leave something in the node to let them hit it.
If all material was removed it disappears instantly.
Can’t remember but i think there were some nods that you could hit more then once like rich thorium or rich something.
All nodes were multiple clicks. Copper? 2-4. Mithril…ahhh yes, Mithril…the Mithril Order…you lovely gold and time sink. Anyways, the same.
My current xmog on live with this char is a tribute to that stinking Mithril Order grind. I never want to see Badlands again.
Edit: Except the pants apparently.
Looked at the Interface files from the Alpha build. The Auto Loot toggle is untouched, meaning it functions like the Retail client currently does.
Did you see anything on area looting (that was the original question)? Looting everything on one corpse is good; but will it loot everything on multiple corpses in close proximity to each other? That wasn’t added until later, so if it’s in Classic it would be a major change …
Should just assume it will work like vanilla until they tell us otherwise. That’s the goal after all.
If we get any newer version then whatever. It’s a QoL thing, and hardly affects actual gameplay.
That’s not part of the Interface files unfortunately. I would not expect it to be included though.
Speed of looting is a significant gameplay effect in tense situations though.
You’re more often going to have a bathroom break issue coming across a node spawn than wpvp or another farmer. But I guess it depends on when you are farming and the server progression.
I seem to remember that if you tagged a node and mine it of most the materials and left say some dense stone or a junk gem it it, it will eventually just despawn after a set amount of time. The areas with the rich thorium were always a contested area and on a couple occasions I had nodes stolen as I was mining them in between swings, quickly realized they could not loot if I never accepted the loot window and would just afk until they left. The area looting thing… as nice as it would be as a QOL feature I don’t care either way if it’s single loot as classic was, the time saved is not relevant early on because let’s be honest — my warrior ain’t aoe farming for a long time.
Datamining and ninjalooting.
Mining is supposed to be multiple failed attempts (unless you’re too high skill)
As for AoE loot, then no, each corpse separately.
I don’t remember if auto loot was an option in game back than.
I know shift looting was a thing though.
