Mining and Herbing

Took both professions without knowing you can only track one at at time.

Do you just switch between the two constantly?

This is a tough question, because hardly anyone will have done this. Generally, in the early stages of a server, mining and herbalism are the weaker of the three gathering professions. Skinning makes more money because of the sheer QUANTITY of stuff you gather compared to mining and herbalism.

I would HIGHLY recommend, as soon as you can afford it, dropping one of your existing professions for skinning.

I did not know that you could change professions in classic. Thanks

You should go mining or herbing and skinning.

Getting rid of a profession is easy. It’s done in the skill tab itself. Then you just go to a profession trainer and learn the new profession.

Obviously, there’s SOME loss of money. You spent 10 copper to learn your profession in the first place. But it’s well worth it. I’ve probably made 10+ gold from just vendoring hides and leather alone.

Keep in mind that (as I’m describing it here) skinning is a junk profession. It’s sole purpose is for vendoring the hides and leather, not to use them for anything or play the AH or anything like that. It makes you some easy gold in the early stages of the server, when gold is a little hard to come by.

Eventually there will be a point where skinning (by itself) doesn’t make enough gold any more. At that time, feel free to get rid of skinning for something else. Planning ahead, that might be Herbalism+Alchemy, or Mining+Engineering, or some other combo like that. Or you might keep skinning and combo it with leatherworking.

I was both mining and herbalism until recently dropping herbalism for engineering. It really isn’t too bad switching periodically depending on what terrain you’re near.

Mining nodes are pretty predictable, always near caves, mountain ridges, edges of the map, etc.

Herbs tend to be more out in the open, with a couple exceptions like liferoot that like to spawn near rivers.

That’s what I’m doing!

There is an addon that tracks where you’ve gathered nods in the past and puts that information on your mini and world map. Very handy for farming.

Get the addon that keeps track of the nodes you pick

This. One or the other.

And then you can be like 70% of the player base right now that did like the guides/content creators all said to do for making gold in classic. Along with the advice of don’t buy stuff from the AH.

And then wonder why the market is flooded and everything is selling for super cheap and blame layering.

Although it’s pretty much been answered, if you want to keep both, I’d track herbs. Mining nodes are easy to spot without tracking, and they are in predictable places.

I do yes. It’s annoying but not a huge issue tbh.
