I’ve read the guides…seems small thorium is 250…which means I need to get from 225-250 somehow…mithril really the only/fastest option all the way to 250? (245 since I have glove enchant)? I was going to check the AH for those goblin mining helmets…but forgot to…are they common/cheap enough to warrant buying one? Taht’d be +10 so I’d only need 240 for small thorium?
It feels like with layeirng and the absolute mass # of people on these servers that it’s incredibly hard to find metal nodes…layer change doesn’t work really any more it seems, but even if it did, there’s people on every layer in these mithril zones farming the mithril…it’s like a wasteland of lack of nodes… hmm
any ideas would be greatful

You need mithril to get to 230 and then truesilver until thorium
I’ve been mining for weeks and have seen 1 truesilver node…period…ever…and I’m level 59.
so…can I “smelt” truesilver from the AH to 250? is that what you mean, because hunting it just is not an option. I’d rather not go back into BRD (ironicalyl I’ve been in brd for the past 5-6 days straight) all the while unable to mine those because mining was behind…now that I can I dont’ want to go in

Yes, along with Truesilver should you be lucky enough to find one once you’re over 230.
Iron caps at 225
Gold caps at 255
Mithril caps at 275
Truesilver starts at 230, caps at 330
Dark Iron same as Truesilver
So yeah, until you get enough Mithril (and there is pretty big need for it so even if you’re not using it yourself, you can make good money), no Thorium for you. Also note you need 275 Mining for Rich Thorium and later 305 Mining for the Obsidian Chunks that drop in AQ once that comes out.
I don’t know about your server/layer but I find them on the regular. I found several yesterday in Felwood. I feel your pain. I had to pass up several small thorium nodes on my journey for Dark Iron and Truesilver. Even worse was when I had to pass up the rich thorium nodes.
Just keep farming.
Run loops in Badlands, lots Iron/Mithril and the population is meager compared to a lot of other zones at that level.
You didn’t say though, can I buy a bunch of truesilver ore and smelt it to cover this last 20 points or do i have to just 'mine it or mithril for 230-250
I’ve noticed a bit of truesilver in Alterac Mountains when I farmed it on my main.
Smelting Truesilver caps at 230, which is to say you get zero benefits from doing so for Mining skill.
Ditto for Thorium at 250.
So actual mining all the way to the end.
ok thanks, it is what it is then. I’ll just keep going to bed in tanaris until it’s done then i can graduate to ungoro…I hear silithus is good too isn’t it

Yup. Honestly any place is “good” if you’re willing to just keep doing laps, although places like Winterspring have less than intuitive (or fun) routes than others. You’ll get there eventually, good luck!
