We have a guildie we’re planning to carry through a Mythic+ this weekend. He is currently 118.
What ilvl does he need to be to zone in once he reaches 118? I don’t mean to contribute effectively, I mean just to zone in once we’re at the dungeon entrance.
If there’s no ilvl requirement, does he even need to be 120? Or could he zone in now with us at 118?

Mythic difficulty requires 120. He can’t even zone.
Heroic, mythic and mythic+ all require 120. A fresh 120 is also going to die constantly in a mythic+. But if that’s ok with you, you’ll definitely get the person some major upgrades.
In all honesty there’s very little point bothering with M+ until he’s already got 370 azerite gear in every slot, so you’ll probably want to do 4-5 regular mythics first anyway.

I’m not sure we have four people who are willing to take the time to do half a dozen +0 just to gear him up. What we do have is four people who are are willing to take on the challenge of basically 4 manning a low key while bringing him along.
Good point that he eventually has to get his Azerite gear, though. Raid finder might be another solution to that?
It will be a lot faster to just stack his armor type and trade him azerite that drops from M0 dungeon bosses, you’re basically guaranteed to get a piece from every end boss this way.
You can do a M0 in about 10 minutes if you’re geared enough to carry someone through M+.
As the poster above said HP is important or he’ll die to unavoidable mechanics in M+. Azerite gear has loads of stamina on it so your M+ runs will go smoother if he already has it.
He won’t be able to queue for raid finder until he has 350+ ilvl anyway.
I’m not sure we’re big enough to stack any armor type other than mail - because, well, < Huntress > - but it’s a good thought; I’ll suggest it.
Wouldn’t this work in raid finder too? From the standpoint of enjoyment, I think more of the people involved like lower difficulty raids, at least for the current raid, than like lower difficulty 5 mans. Or is the proportion of Azerite gear lower in raids?
There’s a minimum ilvl to enter raid finder, and it’s very unlikely you’ll be traded any loot. End bosses of every M0 dungeon drop azerite gear, and it’s most of their loot table. It’s fairly uncommon for no azerite gear to drop. If you can stack armor classes you’re pretty close to guaranteed to get an azerite piece in every dungeon. Whereas you could clear all 9 bosses in LFR, which will take around 3 hours, and still get nothing.
Low level 5 mans can still be fun in this kind of situation. Just pull the whole dungeon and AOE it down while killing the boss. It’s good practice for M+ anyway and not really much different to 4 manning a low key as you planned. The only real difference between a M0 and a M+2 is that the M0 drops azerite gear.
Very good point - I’d forgotten about that.
While I understand some people find this fun, this is exactly what most of our guild hates about modern dungeons, to be honest. Part of the objective here is pulling a group together that’s weak enough that just making it through the dungeon might be a challenge, in a guild group where we don’t feel obligated to try to make the timer.
Still, from a gearing standpoint, you have a very good point that the M0s would likely be most effective.
You can get into the first raid with 320 ilvl - I know cause I just lvld my 5th character and had to find gear so I could get into it. Other raids require more ilvl.
World quests give up to 355 I think, the invasions up to 370, and the emissary quests up to 385. You need to have a high enough item level in order to get those rewards, though. So you can carry him through M+'s to get his gear up, which will allow him to get acceptable gear from those world quest rewards to finish out the slots he’s missing.
The carry doesn’t have to be in the general area of the battle. It’s hard to die if he’s not getting targeted because he’s 200 yards away.
