No acronyms please, but has the no Ice Lance period of Frost mage arrived. Not but a few months into the game even.
It looks like the top single target build uses an odd FB, Flurry, Ice Lance and FB. The idea is to shatter icicles and is a strictly raid game style of play.

It’s been multiple expansions where we need to chain a stupid variation combo of Flurry, FB, IL, IL within a window cause of flurry travel time with the shatter window for dps or dance like chickens side to side for fire. Core mechanics are broken in all design specs.
The issue is this at the root these specs have been and will continue to be broken because Blizzard is out of new ideas - or they dump them into classes that don’t need them: Priest, Hunter, Pally.
Dusting off my hunter. What a dream to not be chained to RoP every 45 seconds - being interrupted to move for a broken utility that ties into core peak and valley dps. I’ll be a hunter with lust, dps on the run with non stop instants while my pets can stand in crap and dps through phases.
Perhaps mages will get another 5% buff lol. So bad.
It genuinely looks like that will be the case, which essentially means I’ll be sticking to my Rogue for raiding. I hated the NoIL build of 8.3 and was glad to see it go, even if both BFA and SL felt gross to play.
The worst thing is, IL and the surrounding mechanics were buffed specifically because of that build (despite the crazy Mastery levels being the only thing keeping it going) and both Blizzard and several high profile streamers came out and stated that it was a disgusting, denegerate playstyle that they never should have allowed in the game to start with. 4 years later and they’ve designed the spec to do that again…
Part of the reason this spec is good is it has higher uptime on our current 4 set.
I think it goes away next teir, given the new set, where IL procs BF.
I’ve chosen to ignore it, mainly cuz I’m already on Raz prog and you don’t take the pure ST build anyway.

Yeah, I don’t know how this keeps happening besides sheer incompetence.
This is more proof than ever that Mage is in desperate need of a formal rework. Mage is a broken collection of hurriedly scrapped-together ideas that people run through sims to try and piece together into something resembling a DPS rotation. First the abomination they created of Arcane and now this.
Removing Ice Lance from Frost’s rotation literally invalidates more than half of the entire spec’s mechanics. There’s no way that’s intentional. It’s the result of horrendous neglect.
is there any other spec in the game that has to ignore procs and prio filler ability to fish for other type of proc. That’s like fundamentally horrifying
