I have noticed on my warrior, when I Pummel a Shadow Priest while casting Mind Flay, it stops the casting BUT they can immediately recast. Shouldn’t it shut down that school of magic for 4 seconds?
I have not tested other interrupts on Mind Flay.

This happens sometimes on channeled spells if the damage component of the interrupt is enough to fully push the spell back, causing it to end the channel, and then the interrupt/lockout effect applies, but the spell is already ended so there is nothing to lock out.
It can happen on any channeled spell. Hurricane, tranquility, blizzard, rain of fire, hellfire, drain life, drain soul, drain mana, mind flay, mind control, arcane missiles, you get the picture.
AH! OK I get it. Thanks for explaining!
It’s also possible they juked your pummel by cancelling the channel shortly before you used pummel. This has been a common practice for experienced PvPers for a very long time.
I do this to mages, rogues and warriors allll the time. Also, I’ll use Starfire to bait their interrupt so I can go ham on heals after they waste an interrupt on my arcane tree.
Possible but unreliable with how spell batching works. I’ve been locked out sometimes on spells that finished and their effect went out lol.
