To avoid a stationary AoE, what if it just moved like Temporal Anomaly used to? Slowly in a line.
Not as fire and forget as shadow priest aoe, but certainly not stationary. Gives a little bit of strategic casting.

Firestorm looks cool and would be fun to use, but honestly I am not sure what about it could change to make it actually attractive to take. Many people in these forums have pointed out that going too far into fire makes you have to remove points from the tree that simply cannot be played without.
I mean, even if the talent that makes firestorm automatically refresh, be instant, incur no CD, and deal more damage isn’t good enough to make people wanna take it. Maybe make it automatically cast as a proc? Idk.
They came out with massive changes to firestorm and this entire side of the tree on alpha yesterday.
Definitely worth checking out.
I’m in the same boat, not sure how to make it attractive. Based on this (the prompt for me making the thread)
Allowing it to move seems like a simple way to help make it functional and more attractive. Not huge on it moving with a pack as a dot, but a blizzard/temporal anomaly -esque slow move forward seems a little more interesting mechanically speaking. Tho, as an alternative, not opposed to the moving dot aoe.
I’ve never been huge on Firestorm (always thought it was a meme pick) but would be nice to make it a bit more takeable. The alpha changes are interesting but a static aoe is rough to utilize.
Destro warlock kinda gets away with it with Rain of Fire, but that’s mostly cause with enough mob density you can just keep casting it over and over. Plus, for a mobile class, static AoE feels a little wonky.
Well given that it’s instant now, and given that pyre is what can reset it via snapfire instead of living flame (no idea why they ever thought that made sense), I feel like we will get many more resets with how our AoE rotation involves hitting pyre 4542320 times.
The radius is also getting buffed, which should help a good amount with movement forgiveness.
Baseline Firestorm just needs to be a good spell
They shouldn’t expect us to spend 3 extra Talent points to make it attractive
If it’s not going to move it needs to have multiple charges or a low cd. Also wouldn’t hurt to make it instant by default or ramp up its damage. That’s a long cast time for a mediocre spell
I agree that Firestorm should just be baseline to prevent infinite pyre spam (super boring) and then maybe add a talent or just add it to the spell to be castable on either an enemy or friendly target. That way it will move while dealing dmg and you can avoid the tanks that run a marathon each pull.
Doesnt Living Bomb and that arcane thing kinda work like that?
That’s my preferred solution, I hate targeting the floor with AoEs.
Are you struggling to hit things? The radius is fine.
Are you still salty and still comparing spells that are functionally different in every way?
