Midnight Transmog changes are bad for RP

So coming here just to point this out in hopes Blizzard might consider moving in a different direction with this - as the new transmog changes for Midnight present a number of problems for RPers.

In Midnight, Transmog will be slot-based rather than item-based. This means that every time you want to change an appearance on your character, you will have to visit a transmogger. Many RPers keeps separate items that they keep transmogged to their regular outfits or alternative outfits from what theyre running around in for questing. With this new change, we won’t just be able to swap outfits anymore - we’ll actually have to go to the NPC and change them (or at least use a transmog mount, still interrupting the RP.)

I understand there is the situations feature, but it seems like that will be location-based. If we can change the situation at will like we can with current gear “outfits” then thats good, but if its strictly location based, that still does not allow us to swap out appearances as we can currently in the game by swapping out gear. This is a big thing in RP that is used frequently, and I am not sure why they would take that away.

Trying to make transmog cheaper is great - and I was really excited when it was initially announced that it would be basically free. But making it slot-based instead of item takes away from RP, and will mean we have to spend gold for EVERY outfit change (something we do not currently have to do) making it far more expensive than it is now and also interrupting RP to change clothes or even swap weapons.

I hope Blizzard might consider this and either make transmog just be free or at least allow us the option to transmog items individually still rather than making it slot-based, as it would be interrupting to RP the way it currently says it will be happening.

If Blizz allows us to swap our outfit at will, this would also solve the problem. If “Situations” exist, we should be able to just swap when we want also. This would fix the problem.

outfits will auto swap according to where you are and it will be free

where did you see this?

No. It will not.

Make outfit, pay for outfit, change outfit without cost.

And situation outfits will also exist.

interviews from gamescom

so if you’re in your house you can make a tab situation, wanna wear pajama transmog. you set the location, your house and the transmog links to that situation. then if you go out in the world you got your raid transmog, set that up and then it will swap

for free

Right but you cant just change at will can you? Like RPers frequently change outfits during scenes, especially weapons or head peices. We’ll actually have to go transmog that now based on what I’m seeing in order to swap from a hood up to the scarf for hood down or like sword and shield to a different sword or something yes? RPers do that all the time

Yes you can. It’s similar to SWTOR.

Like in the open world? Without going back to a transmog npc or using the mounts?

Yes. Pick an outfit. Swap. No charge. The charge is for outfits. Not swapping said outfits.

Will you have to use the mount? Maybe. Most likely. But it’ll be free to swap.

Except for situation changes. Walk into your housing plot and your outfit auto swaps.

ya basically to make an outfit costs gold but like now we have the outfit list we make, instead of paying gold every switch itll be free

Yeah, you are missing the situation tabs. So you pay ONCE only for specific situations. So you can set an outfit for your house, the regular RP hang out, special events, etc. You simply buy one tab for each situation, and they change, free of charge forever after that. I’m going to make one for every zone in the city, specific taverns elsewhere, and 3 for when I am at home. I spend almost 100,000 a month on mongs right now. So this will save me about 980,000 gold per year.

And, when you upgrade your gear, the mog reapplies FREE.

that still def leaves the issue of having to return to a transmogger for outfit changes. We need to be able to do it in the open world like we can with “outfits” currently in the game, otherwise its very bad for RP. No one wants to have to jump on a mount just to swap a helmet for a hood lol

How is that an issue? There’s an engineering transmog item, a toy for transmog, multiple mounts and city NPCs.

And again, situation transmog.

right but we dont know what situation transmog means. Is it location based? that doesnt fix the RPer problem. Right now we can just swap gear to swap appearance without having to talk to any npc or anything, we just equip the new gear. If its slot-based that means even equpping the new gear doesnt change the appearance. That will interrupt RP to have to leave a scene and go change your transmog just to swap appearances. It removes something we can currently do rn UNLESS we can change outfits without going to a transmogger.

Yes.

As a roleplayer since Vanilla… this is a fantastic change and I don’t know why you’d dislike it.

I’ve been using a similar system in SWTOR for ages. It’s much better than what we have.

Adapt.

And no, it does not cost you more.

I dislike it because it takes away something we can do right now. Right now we can swap out appearances at will to help with RP. Why should we have to summon an NPC that will hang around for 10 min or get on a mount randomly in the middle of a scene just to swap appearances? They could have just made it free and this would not be an issue.

Because it’s a better system that won’t cost as much and benefits everyone.

The current one is archaic and expensive.

Plan ahead. Adapt. I did in SWTOR for roleplay outfits.

they could literally just make it free

And have the system still be archaic and crappy where I still have to stop every single time I replace a piece and have to transmog it.

No. This is much better.

Right now you would have to carry the alternate clothing items in your bags and physically swap them out piece by piece.

Now you should be able to change your whole look all at once. You also won’t have to re-mog every time you get an upgrade.

Depending on how many outfit slots we get; I can’t see the downside to this.

In any case, it’s still too early to say for sure; we’ll have to wait until it’s out in beta to pass any final judgements.
