Thereâs always the option of having Flamefang Pitch act as an upgrade to Wildfire Bomb rather than a separate ability. Another option would be as an augment to the final round of your Boomstick.
You bring up a stated goal of reducing bloated globals, but Survival has Boomstick, Takedown, and Flamefang Pitch all competing for space at around the 1 min mark and all having short duration effects that pull the player in different directions. This issue only becomes worse if you take Pack Leader and need to spend one of those precious gcds on Kill Command to initiate Stampede.
Boomstick has a connected node reducing the CD to 45sec

Can we talk about the Boomstick situation? Why do i have to use a gun when playing the hunter spec i pick to avoid being forced to use a gun? Who decided this??
I was excited to play Survival in Midnight as my main, and now with all these weird changes, i am totally feeling the spec is ruined on beta.
I like the pitch flame thing, i love the axe toss. But the design feels very schizophrenic- are we forced to play as Rexxar or Brann? I donât want to be Rambo, i want to play a fantasy game where most people arenât using guns. Let me use a spear or axe. ffs.
Youâve been using a gun all of the War Within and a crossbow.
Neither? You play as your own character, using the same sort of fantasy and spec identity since 2016 thatâs been reinforced every expansion since.
Youâre playing the wrong game then. There have been spaceships, laser beams, helicopters, tanks, etc for 2 decadesâŠ
People are either going to take that node and Lethal Calibration to get the cooldown as close to 30 seconds as possible or theyâre not going to take that talent and leave the cooldown at 1 minute because they donât like the shotgun but they still want to line up with 1 min Takedown.
Either way, youâre running into the issue of the 1 minute mark being overcrowded with powerful cooldowns that provide very short duration effects but needing to use gcds to activate those abilities in addition to the abilities that benefit from the bonuses. I think this is the biggest reason why Flamefang Pitch needs to be a passive effect rather than an active ability.
Letâs consider attaching it to Boomstick since you would use them at about the same time anyways. Change Flamefang Pitch to the following:
Dragonfire Shell - The final round of your Boomstick fires a Dragonfire Shell, dealing an additional (600% attack power) Fire damage to enemies in in front you. The ground in the blast area is engulfed in flames for 8 seconds, igniting enemies caught in the flames for (400% attack power) Fire damage over 8 seconds.
This would accomplish the same concept, remove the need for enemies to remain in the ground effect to receive the full DoT, free up an active ability keybind, and free up a gcd at that 1 minute mark.

No other cc in the game that isnât a stun lasts as long as Freezing Trap does without a cast though either, there is a trade off.
Canât this already be done with a cursor macro? Sure you gotta still aim your cursor at where you want the trap, but itâs still a single key press to throw a trap.
Unless are they removing cursor macro functionality in midnight? That would suck
Iâm sure it can, though you would still be left with issues with your intended placement sometimes shifting to walls or the ceiling in close quarters. Personally, I think most people would just prefer to not have to resort to macros for basic functionality.
Iâm adding this as an edit to the original post. I feel like itâs pretty solid and no one seems to have any negative feedback against it.
The worst I can come up with would be the struggle to not be shut down in PVP when everyone figures out to just disrupt Boomstick. Maybe a new PVP talent will come along to help ensure we have a reasonable chance to complete the channel.
