Midnight prepatch catchup gear

So, I just hit 80. My gear is way out of date. I even have some level 69 heirlooms. Now, I could do a couple of things. One, buy stuff from the AH and spend my stone upgrading it. Two, wait for the patch and go for the prepatch pieces. So, here are my questions:

  1. Does the prepatch catchup gear need upgrading?
  2. If so, does it use valorstones, or a new currency?

I’m just trying to plan smart here. Thanks!

I would just get normal dungeon gear now and call it a day. Everything will be obsolete very soon.

Unless you like farming crates.

Do some timerunning runs and some upgrades. Then delves and WQ. I got a brand new 80 yesterday from around 500 to over 600 ilevel in about three hours. The reishi wraps too boost the level fairly.

The easiest way to get all gear up in this case is the starter K’aresh quests if you didn’t skip them. That will at least get 642 greens across all gear slots with a single quest track.

Delves, dungeons, LFR, purchasing, and crafting can fill in holes. What I’ve heard, but have no proof/guarantee is catch-up will offer champion level - one track above LFR / delves base gear. I have no idea what to expect for the upgrade system or if it will work.

If you can farm up a crafted weapon to at least 704 or higher, I’d say that’s your best bet. Everything else is gravy.

Prepatch event starts on Jan 27 and goes to launch, its about equivalent to 710 gear, catalyst converting it gives normal season 3 sets. Set bonuses are disabled and there are no trinkets.

Run epic battlegrounds. They’re fun and you get a big chunk of honor even when you lose. You can purchase full honor PvP set in like a day (starts at 642 I think and is upgradable). You also get conquest for wins, toward upgradable 681 epics. So it’s probably the easiest way to gear a new toon, other than buying gear. I recently returned to wow, and quickly geared up multiple characters this way, plus doing the PVP weekly quests that are easy, and running a bit of solo shuffle. Easy gear!

You could join a war mode crate farm group. Conquest pvp gear is champion level.

Undercoin, or whatever that delve currency is, is transferrable and can be used to buy all slots of gear at Veteran track. So unless you JUST started playing TWW there is no reason alts should be below 668ilvl. Plus the renown crest and valorstone rewards… My timerunners have all got to 690+ in a single play session after transfer from remix.

Don’t forget to get the 701 DISC belt while you’re unlocking delve tiers! Sure, it’s not as powerful as it used to be, but it’s still a nice ilvl bump while you’re getting early gear.

Get the Reshi cloak from the most recent content added. Do delves, mostly. WQ for obvious upgrades. With the right Brann spec he can be relatively immortal and it’s up to you to just do enough DPS.

Tank spec + Battered Aegis + Mana tinged glasses. If your dps is high enough, switch the glasses for Hattarang.

Wow… I think I am just too out of the loop. I have like 30 characters, and no nothing about undercoins. I have a few here and there. But, where do you buy the gear with them?

As for the rest of the advice, I don’t know. I don’t do M+, Raids, or PvP. It’s like, the best I can get are 624 items and upgrade those.

Just play what ever you find fun and you will get gear. It is mostly pointless these days unless you are looking to get a mythic rating reward or join a serious raiding guild.

The ethereals right across from the mailbox in Dornogol. I forget their names but their subtitles are something along the lines of and .

Hearth → take a left when you exit the inn → straight across the plaza and up the stairs

Thanks, but that made little sense to me. If I take a left after hearthing, I hit a wall. And there’s several mailboxes. Sorry, I can be really dense. Try again, please?

Thanks. That helped a whole lot. I had enough to get all the pieces but one. Only, I spent all my valorstones on the 642 things. Oh well! These will do. Going to do more bountifuls for the last piece.
