Midnight MM Changes are really bad

So, let me see if I understand - and this is strictly for PvP -

  • traps are gone
  • knockback is gone
  • Scatter Shot is gone
  • and Aimed Shot is now a 3.0 second hard cast

Really? How in the hell do you expect MM to compete in PvP? This is insanity.

It’s also really bad for PvE.

Though to be fair, the cast time is down to 2.5 seconds. Still much too long, but better than 3.

With the way dungeons/raids throw around AOE blobs of damage, having that long of a cast to get off AS will not be happening often.

Yeah MM looks rough in Midnight.

I plan to roll exclusively survival in the next expansion, I’ve played both specs always but I don’t think I’ll be dabbling in MM in Midnight. Unless they change alot, the whole explosive shot and magnetic gunpowder interaction with aimed shot was so fun and smooth. Without that the spec is going to feel so bad to play.

And it will be a nightmare for them to balance, no pun intended. With losing so many ways to lock down targets, and aimed shot being a long hard cast, they will have to make it hit stupid dumb hard, or the spec will just be entirely unviable in PvP. But then we’ll be back to MM one shotting issues again.

I feel like most ranged DPS have cast times similar to the 2-2.5 second mark, no?

Its 3.0 seconds. And Chaos Bolt comes to mind, but they have a Seduce, Coil and Fear. MM has……..lost Frost Trap, Scatter Shot, Knockback, Tar Trap no longer has the talent to have the enemy get stuck for a moment.

I promise you it’s not. It was changed a while ago to 2.5.

What is not 3 seconds? Aimed Shot? Every content creator I have watched going over MM has made a point of pointing out that AS can no longer benefit from Precise Shots.

correct, the cast time of aimed shot is not 3 seconds, it’s 2.5 seconds

You may be watching older footage, it is back down to 2.5seconds. You can view the change logs to see for yourself

It’s been a long damn time since Aimed Shot was changed from 3s (11.1 onward) back to its 8.0 to 11.05 2.5s cast-time.

And Aimed Shot doesn’t benefit from Precise Shots. That’s Arcane Shot, an instant.

@Asthelon
That said, casts as long as 2.5s are pretty rare; even other casts with a base of 2.5s still have their passive or active cast-time reductions that bring them down instead to 2.25 or 2s pre-Haste.

From what I can tell, you need teamwork to get those shots off. Did they lose Freezing Trap too? What about Binding Shot? Those still give you some time to get the shots off.

I don’t see Frost Trap on the talent calculator on Wowhead as of yesterday. Yes, there is still Binding Shot.

I’ve been following the Survival chart, but I went and checked Marksman and they still have talents that affects Freezing Trap. So they should still have it. “Cold Feet” on the second last talent of the left side of the Hunter tree. It reduces movement speed by 70% when the trap breaks, so it’s pretty good for winding up that shot.

I was on another thread where a guy thought they took out Binding Shot, but it’s still there too. It’s an easy mistake to make given the vast number of talent options.

Personally, I’d love to see a talent that would convert Tar Trap to Snake Trap. One that would bring back the 3 second root and poison the targets caught in it.

and yet mm and bm have some of the highest burst and sustain

still leading almsot every other class for st and ae

this class is 100% the devs favorite

I’m pretty sure Freezing Trap is just a baseline ability

LOL, MM is going to have trouble in PvE, let alone PvP. Random AI (badly) controlled NPC mobs will own MM Hunters …

It’s not just the cast time (of a still long at 2.5 sec, without bonuses), it’s the fact that we will now be stationary turrets. Without all the kit that some other RDPS classes might have. So this will just get us killed. In PvE, let alone PvP.

I watched a video yesterday that has an MM dueling in the Midnight beta, and they were using Frost Trap, yet I do not see it in the talent tree. So, you are probably right.
