Midnight Class Changes Venting Thread

So, I’m sure everyone has seen the alpha talent trees and have read about various changes from alpha players.

IMHO, changing a class by drastically changing or removing core mechanics they have had for over a decade is a bad idea. Many players play that class for the said mechanics, by changing or removing them, you just pulled a bait and switch on them - rendering all their investment in said class moot in the process.

No good can come of this. Some players will grudgingly adapt while others will drop the class - or even the game if they can’t find a replacement class they like.*

Frost Mage … the Shatter mechanic we had since Vanilla is getting replaced with a freezing mechanic. From what I’m told it’s very similar to the much hated Festering Wounds mechanic DKs have/had. I’m not sure what that is or why it is hated but this doesn’t bode well.

I like Frost Mage for its “set and spike” gameplay - the Water Elemental was an excellent setter with its Freeze. But I’m not sure I can do that anymore in Midnight - I even heard the returning Water Elemental doesn’t even have its Freeze anymore; What’s the point in bringing it back then?

I get the feeling Blizzard is trying to change the class … At the end of MoP they added icicles … something no one has asked for. Then they added version 2 of it called splinters with the hero trees.

Why not just let us play the class we initially signed up for?

So, what core mechanics has Blizzard drastically changed/removed from your class? Let it all out here.

* This kind of happened to me in FFXIV. SMN in EW was nothing like SMN in ARR. It was practically unrecognisable. I wasn’t even sure what I was playing anymore. So after EW’s main story, I figured it’s time to retire.

I think they took the pruning too far with a few specs, like fire mage and resto sham.

But for the specs I’m interested in, the changes have looked pretty good so far. Brewmaster and Mistweaver, Blood and Unholy, Surv Hunter, Feral Druid, Holy Priest maybe.

I didn’t think the new freezing mechanic for Frost Mage looks anywhere near as annoying as wounds for current Unholy. Yeah its a debuff you have to build up and target switching means you have to build it up again, but from what I’ve seen it builds up very fast and also builds on multiple targets in AoE. I’m no expert though, just saw some gameplay. The complaint I heard was that you actually build up freezing stacks so fast and easy that you spam ice lance too much to shatter them.

Sorry I know you wanted rants. But so far my reactions have ranged from neutral to excited.

It’s Alpha, they will listen to feedback and make it worse, or better, I don’t know I don’t make games.

But I think you are all overreacting, give it time, all these minor issues will be made better and who knows, with all the dungeon and raid changes and the addon purge, maybe it’s for the better.

“Gotta dumb it down for the lowest common denominator” - Blizz probably

Finally! a venting thread for this topic.

I refuse to invest any emotion in any announced changes until I personally experience them.

I’m far from a fanboi, but equidistant from being a doomsayer. I need to see how they do this all.

I’m trying not to have expectations, it’s unfair to yourself and Bliz, tbh.

This is alpha phase 1 we are a long way away they have to break it down to rebuild it the classes again

I get I understand.I have no problem with it
Like I want to play a shadow priest I want to to try it but to me it seems scary…

I have played a frost mage
I have not play fire nor arcane I really want to play a arcane mage they look so fun and fire mages also look just absolutely great. Now I’m a delver and do outdoor content and I want to try that new prey system if those classes work and I can be successful and there fun then …hey No problem…

I just think everyone should stop with all the vidoes until maybe two weeks before launch.things are going to change 1000’ of times and even after the game launched they still will be working on things so let’s not jump the gun…the sky is not falling…the world is not going to end…and at atlas 3l comet/ alien is not here yet…so just chill and take everything with a grain of salt…

Things I don’t like losing:

Thunderstorm for enhance shaman
Defile for unholy dk
Slow and other spells for mage (the rework I like the least)
Double tap for mm hunter

That being said, I will adjust and don’t mind other changes. I most worry about the frost mage changes. I haven’t done a deep dive on other alts I play quite yet.
