Midnight - A suggestion

As a suggestion for Midnight I have the following, which may be taken as a hot take.

Make us ground mount until completion of the main storyline, but only if, and only if, this is the only requirement to unlock Flight. Both Dynamic and Traditional. Flight would unlock for both variants just like it currently does for Traditional flight. They could possibly even increase the speed of ground mounts from the current 100% to 200% to make it a little faster of a mode of travel.

I think the main thing a lot of people disliked, myself included, about the older Pathfinders was all of the additional things tacked on, meaning it would sometimes take months before a player could fly again. If the only requirement to be able to fly was to complete the Main Campaign Storyline, I would be down for this.

While nothing stopped me from doing so, I do miss riding along the paths. But, given I am human and had a much faster version available to me, of course I chose that.

I think going back to this mode of initial travel, would make the immersion of the worlds better. You’d see the amount of time the artists put into the world. As compared to flying over it.

Edit: It’d also allow players to utilize their ground mount collections more, and mayhaps even create less of a heartache when new content is designed without flying.

I personally want Midnight to have real flying available right away and sky gliding to be locked behind completing the initial campaign. But grounded completely would be awful and make me delay buying the expansion until that requirement went away. Not gonna do anything on siren Island because no flying even though there’s a mount. :see_no_evil::speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil:

Depending on how they revamp Quel’thalas, this is a very real possibility. Seeing as you can’t fly in current SMC or the surrounding area

So you want to nerf the current iteration for the only reason being, “I have no self control”?

No thanks.

Due to how it was originally built. A new Quel’thalas is being built from the ground up.

I’d be happy with them simply testing/fixing/testing before release.

Play the game however you like.

I hated grinding rep for flight in BfA so much I quit playing in 2020 and just came back in July.

I’m not running around on a ground mount. Takes too long and I’m not eating up 25% of my playtime traversing hostile areas on a ground mount. I’ll just unsubscribe and uninstall again if they go back to forcing ground mount use.

So use your ground mounts all you want. I use some of mine pretty regularly. However when I need to actually travel I use a flying mount.

Not a lack of self control, more of a common sense thing.

If you were given the choice between a horse drawn carriage, or a Ferrari to get somewhere to do something. Are you going to take the Horse or the Ferrari?

You’d be stupid to not take the Ferrari. So thus, as a Human, I of course chose the “Ferrari”.

Now in a ground mount only introduction to an expansion, where up until you complete the initial level up campaign you cannot fly. The ground mount in that case, would become the “Ferrari”.

While I enjoy flight, I do miss the times where I had to experience the entirety of the content on the ground. Not with the iterations of the pathfinders they had back then, but I do miss doing the content on the ground. Instead of, Grab quest, Zip over there, do thing, zip over here, zip over there.

It begs the question as to why they bother making things on the ground so intricate in areas we just fly over.

It also leads the player heartache currently being experience when “new” content is made that is only available on the ground.

Nope. It’s a lack of self control. Because I leveled through all of DF the very first time when it went live on the ground, on purpose, because I felt like it and wanted that perspective.

I did half of War Within the same way, but I was enjoying the scenery from the air in Hallowfall so much that I was swapping between the two just to look around.

Last time I checked, quests cannot be done while flying.

This argument has been shot down time and time again.

At least no more flying dungeons. :crossed_fingers::robot:

Sounds like you’d also enjoy a ground mount only level up campaign then. And, instead of being one of a very small few players who did it on the ground for the most part, you’d be with many other players.

Instead of seeing players constantly getting on their flying mounts and constantly zipping off.

If they did a speed increase for ground mounts, up to 200%, I think it would be a better experience.

Nope. I wouldn’t. I like the choice I have. But I can tell by this post you ignored half of what I said to further a poor narrative.

No. Stop trying to increase the speeds in this game any more than they already are. People have had to quit this game because Blizz keeps increasing speeds and not giving people the choice of slower speeds any longer.

I’m done with this thread of bad ideas.

The other half of what you said stated “Felt like it and wanted that persceptive” And the only reason you stopped haflway thru TWW was because “You enjoyed the scenery from the Air In Hallowfall”

But yes. I was piece mealing your statement to further mine.

Thank you for stopping by and putting in your perspective. Enjoy your day.

I have a better idea.

Make flying automatic at the beginning of an expac all the way through to the end.

Stop messing with it and treating it like it’s a reward or something.

We all have ground mounts by now. We can choose to use them or not.
This should never be an issue.

Question for OP: Do you work for Blizzard or something?

Sorry, but this really reads as “because I have no self restraint even though I think using ground mounts would be better for me, I am gonna suggest forcing everyone to play the way I think they should.”

Being able to fly around from day one actively increases my fun with the world. I explore far more with flying mounts than I ever did with ground mounts because I don’t have to worry about how to get up that stupid cliff to see something I found interesting.

Heck, in earlier expansions I did not explore until I got flying mounts. I would do the minimum of walking between quest to quest because I just found the ground travel frustrating more often than not. I would mark locations that looked interesting with the intent to go back once I got flying.

Skyriding from the start is amazing in the zones now. It lets you play in the air, and explore the zones while they are still fresh and you are not so tired of trudging through them you barely wanna see em again. I am sorry you do not like flying from the start, but don’t try to take away the choice from those of us that do.

Then you can’t miss it that much. If I miss doing something, I’m going to go out and do it, especially in a video game where the whole point in playing is having fun.

See, this is where these threads get very old very fast. That’s HIGHLY subjective. Immersion means different things for different people. You’re effectively implying that your immersion is more important than the immersion of everyone who doesn’t agree with you.

I never enjoy the content being forced to travel on the ground. If you truly enjoyed traveling like that you would just do it, you wouldn’t try to get blizzard to make others miserable for you.

I loved being able to fly from the start.

How will you get your groceries home if they repossess your Ferrari?

Because they have a CHOICE in the matter.

The last time Blizzard took it upon themselves to make that choice for players (that being WoD’s flying debacle) Blizzard almost killed their game overnight after they announced that WoD would never get flying and that future expansions wouldn’t get it either. Like, there are millions of players who will genuinely never play WoW again because of how badly Blizzard strung everyone along.

NEVER underestimate how many people really, really want flying.
