Using a M1 Mac Mini and Razer Naga (wired left hand version) - previously, up until today and logging in about an hour ago, I was able to use my middle mouse button to move freely - pitch/steering/etc.
Currently, the only thing I can do is move in a straight line unless I use keys to handle the pitch/steering.
On the other hand, I can freely move with my left/right buttons held.
I don’t recall ever doing anything special to bind the middle button.
Have done the usual disabling of add-ons. Have double checked my settings, fiddled around with keybinding - “Move and Steer” being the most obvious to try - set it to middle mouse button, no luck.
Ultimately I suppose I can get used to moving with both mouse buttons - but would like to know if it’s possible to get back being able to use the middle mouse button instead.

Same problem. I also experienced this on the beta, and reported it as a bug there.
I will continue to bump this thread and any other I find on the subject because this is a HUGE problem for me. I’ve controlled my toons a certain way for almost 20 years. This isn’t game-breaking for me, but is ALMOST such.

to clarify: my setting was ALREADY set to “move and steer” and middle mouse button, but no luck. disabling that did nothing, nor did re-enabling. nor did disconnecting mouse and reconnecting it.
again, I submitted a bug about this in the beta tool.

This sounds exactly like my issue as well.
It’s actually the reason that I ended up NOT playing the beta. I thought it would be something that never made it into live and carried on with my life.
My setup when I logged into the pre-patch was set to the middle mouse button being “move and steer” as well. But yeah, no amount of fiddling with various settings did anything.
- Reset to default settings
- Enabling disabling settings like “click to move” (not at all what I thought it was - so I don’t think it’s related)
- Poring over various other key bind options thinking maybe I missed something
- Scouring the internet for anything relevant within the last year or so and trying things like “downloading drivers”
- Stopped short of doing any random solutions that required terminal input
Like yourself - I have been doing the middle mouse to move/steer/pitch for roughly the same amount of time.
I could adjust to using the two mouse buttons at the same time to move/steer, but my muscle memory is pretty locked into wanting to use the middle mouse button and I find myself reaching for the log out button because I’d rather NOT be frustrated while playing. Especially since I had “mastered” dragon riding/sky riding with the middle button - the feel of going from being fluid and intuitive to feeling like a beginner is enough to make me walk away. I’d venture to say that having the movement just being a straight line makes it worse - since it’s almost taunting me and I end up stopping whatever I wanted to do to scratch the itch of “It must be some setting I’m missing, somewhere.”
Game breaking? No. Enough for me to probably shorten my play experience and probably just drop off for N time because suddenly new toys seem more appealing than being frustrated? Probably what will happen.

Omg… I am not alone… I have been having the same exact issue since the beginning of the Beta, with no solution at all. All of my support/tickets explaining this issue have been automated responses without even acknowledgement of the issue. I’ve reported it as a bug many many times through the in-game option…nothing.
Prior to yesterdays patch, I was able to move just fine on Retail and only experienced the issue in the Beta. Now that its invaded retail, I am just completely cooked. Sadly I will more than likely just quit the game if the issue is not resolved. I’m unable to adjust to holding both buttons or a combination of the Left or Right + Middle Mouse.
Very sad about this honestly.

I’ve been trying - but man… it’s not going super well. Constantly catching myself instinctively going for middle mouse button. Lamenting not being able to left/right click other things while flying/moving, I’m sure as I go on I’ll find more that it affects.
I was honestly pretty jazzed to try the Beta, but noped out of it after about 10 minutes, with, apparently, the vain hope that it would “resolve itself” by the time things hit the masses.

Hats off to you for trying to tough it out, I cannot make it work myself. Too warrior brained to adjust.
Sadly due to the lack of information on this topic I am starting to think that we’re just doomed.

I’m also experiencing that Move and Steer is broken. Playing on a M1 Mac Studio. Disabled all Add Ons. Rebound the middle mouse button to Move and Steer using the in-game keybindings, but no luck. Pressing down the middle mouse button will make my characters move forward, but there is no steering with the mouse movement. Guess I won’t play today. Please fix this Blizz.

I can’t completely say it’s related, but it probably is:
Using stuff like artillery or vehicles that require aim is also affected.
Also might just be me “getting used to using two buttons simultaneously”, but the finger/wrist fatigue is better than my self regulation at setting a limit to my game time.
Also have “crashed” many times now from instinctively using left click/hold for scanning around with the camera. “Whats that over ther… oh hello, ground” or, by the time I realize it, I’m descending so slowly that my flight points (or whatever they are called) aren’t regenerating and I don’t have enough to course correct once I remember I need to use two buttons to move and steer.

Yep. This is a real problem- more than an inconvenience- for people who have been “driving” their toons with the middle mouse button. Imagine doing it for 15-20 years… and even mapping it that way in other mmo’s.
I realize in the grand scheme of launch bugs it seems small. But it’s a real issue for some folks.

I can’t wait to get my “scroll button steering” back. I managed to fly around last night on one character using arrow keys and the right mouse button, but my hands are seriously sore this morning from trying to avoid crashing into mountains. (Narrator: Unfortunately, the mountains insisted on being crashed into.) Hopefully the next build cures the problems. Thanks for posting that link.

Also happening to me. I cannot play the game effectively until this is fixed, but hopeful the next update will resolve based on the Blue post linked above.

Just keeping this bumped. I promise there are a lot more people dealing with this than post on the forum.
