Destruction warlocks have two main spells, incinerate and chaos bolt. Incinerate does 6.3k damage and chaos bolt does 45k damage.
I feel like destruction warlocks are missing a mid range spell, a gap filler, between incinerate 6.3k and chaos bolt 45k. I would like to see a new warlock spell for mid range dps, which also procs, and does around 20k ~ 23k damage.
Well you have incinerate as your filler and utilize a couple of other spells, procs, and proper traits to get the most out of your bolts. During an encounter, you aren’t blindly throwing out incinerates and bolts back to back for the entire duration.
Conflagration has two charges that you apply into your rotation pre-bolt to dish out literally 1 second chaos bolts. Mind you, conflagration hits for much more than incinerate.
VoP procs give you the chance to snag some supremacy stacks mid fight which will temporarily add a substantial amount to your bolts. Also with infernal CD reduction via VOP major you have the ability to dish out massive damage like every couple minutes. I literally have some fights where I’m bolting for 300-305k with max stacks + trinket proc.
You’re going to be utilizing Havoc on fights with more than one target and Cataclysm in fights with adds. So that helps a lot.
Definitely want to acquire 2-3 Chaotic inferno traits since they add baseline damage to your chaos bolt.
Idk what your mastery is at as Destro but 45k per bolt is low. I think in my destro set I’m at 70-75% mastery and my regular bolts are much much higher than that.
Destro is so dependent on having good traits and right amount of mastery to keep your damage rolling throughout the fights so you just gotta make sure you’re snagging all the right pieces.
What would make sense is if immolate increased fire damage. If you’re burning and you add more fire, it should be doing more damage, right? Now chaos bolt won’t be affected because it’s chaos damage, but let’s say you use immolate, your conflagration and incinerate spells should be doing additional damage. Sometimes I don’t even cast immolate, because it doesn’t feel fun and it doesn’t feel like there’s a point to use it.
I totally agree that a mid range spell (or something) that is a fast cast spell or channel or something like that would rock. Honestly, i have a geared destro warlock and find it very annoying in dungeons that the build up to do crazy damage takes too long, and when you are built up to explode with damage it is too late.
As a result you can’t use your cds effectively, and lose your chance to do big damage before you get to the next trash pack. You often also lose your chance halfway through unloading chaos bolts–often mid cast, and then you miss your chance.
Why not just make soul fire a permanent spell vs a talent, and make the talent option lengthen the cast or make it a channel or something, huh? Or is just being a horrible spec in most cases for dungeons what Blizzard wants?
