Mid-Range DPS spec

I’m not sure if its really a thing but what class/spec would you guys consider to be mid range DPS? Maybe Enhancement Shaman? Something with melee and short ranged spells.

They interest me but I’m not really a fan of the wined up AOE cone attacks is it possible to spec away from that in the talent tree?

No, your empowered spells are a core mechanic to all Evoker specs.

This isn’t really an answer, but ranged should by default be clumped with melee unless the fight mechanics require them to be away.

Being grouped up is better for aoe healing and not out ranging your healer.

Ret paladin is still a melee spec, but a large number of ret paladin abilities can be used outside of melee range. 8 yard Templar Strikes, 20 yard Final Verdict and Blade of Justice, etc.

Devastation Evoker is the literal only answer to this, even though it’s still mostly a ranged DPS spec at the end of the day.

Ret Paladin is also like 15 yd range for almost their entire kit.

SV also has everything besides Mongoose Bite/Carve at range and also has a gigantic melee range to begin with due to Lunge (can hit Trothak/Stinkbreath very easily during their whirlwinds and also Dargrul through the rocks while hiding if he is close enough).

With melee AND spells?

Enhance Shaman and Death Knights, particularly unholy.

Unholy can use both its Runic Power spender and it’s Runic Power generator at range. You need to be in melee periodically to apply wounds and to benefit from auto attacks, but that’s pretty minimal. Your pet is also a huge source of your damage.

If you’re ever “forced out” of melee as an unholy DK, you can easily maintain a nearly full DPS rotation for 10+ seconds depending on how many wounds you had up before you left.

To a lesser extent, Feral Druid with some of the Moonkin talents (you take them anyway for the extra melee range) and Heart of the Wild – for 45sec every 5 minutes, you can do competent damage in Moonkin form. This is a much longer stretch than DK can do but it’s obviously less useful for intermittent weaving.

Annoyed by mobs that whirlwind but want to be melee? Play unholy DK or a spec with very long melee reach, like Rogue or Feral.

Annoyed by bosses that have long range-only intermissions like Eranog but want to play melee? Play Feral with Heart of the Wild.

Uhh not “spells”, but Outlaw has some stupid range for a melee.
