Microtransactions Are Here To Stay

Not defending it but why would they?

They do in some european countries, but I think it is very unlikely to happen here.

For the simplest reason.

Money.

I don’t have anything against it. It’s a decent game that let me see exactly how much I enjoy having MMO in my Diablo for free (which is to say, not at all). It may actually save me money since D4 is going to be an MMO too.

Because what Diablo Immortal and what WoW are doing are totally the same thing…

They’re not even remotely comparable. Stop it.

Haha, it is just the opposite for me. I mean I love/loved all the Diablos, but I really got into the MMO aspect of D:I. To each their own though.

$49 million actually seems a bit low for a mobile game with that type of monetization within the first month. I imagine they were expecting projections much higher than that.

In other breaking news, water is still wet.

They are not remotely the same…yet

Do you really think Blizz will not incorperate new monetization methods as the WoW player base decreases?

Yeah, they lost an entire market…that also happens to be the real money maker. But for North America, some of Europe, and some Asian countries $50 mil is probably pretty good

I’ve done no such thing. I’ve spent $0 on DI. Though I could have told you years ago microtransactions on f2p games was here to stay.

You know that Microsoft does microtransactions too right? Free products are rarely ever truly free, the company, at least the for profit ones, still want to make a profit from everything they create.

Why should they care about a handful of people throwing a tantrum on the internet? Those review bombing games on these review sites don’t represent the playerbase. All they’re doing is hurting the credibility of websites like rotten tomatoes and metacritic.

It is surprisingly low, and not impressive whatsoever for a mobile game, but the game is not released in China yet which is where the big money was expected to be. Everything depends on how well it does when it gets released there

It’s not released yet in most of Asia. It should shoot up this week.

Not ever to the extent of a mobile game.

Go and look at microtransaction trends that exist in the games industry. You’ll find that mobile game monetization stays in the mobile game market and does not transition. Diablo Immortal is the first and only game on PC to have that level of MTX, and that’s because it was designed as a mobile game first, then ported to PC. If it were designed as a PC game first and then ported to mobile (which IMO it should have been) then the MTX model used by Diablo Immortal would be very, very different.

No I’m pretty sure that the 0.3 rating on metacritic is pretty much representative of what the general playerbase feels about Diablo Immoral. It doesn’t hurt the website’s credibility at all that their ratings successfully identify the most hated games of all time (e.g. Diablo Immortal, Warcraft Reforged, Madden, etc)

People simtuaenously saying they hate microtransactions while covered in shop gear atop their aotc/ksm boost mount. Yeah, they aren’t going anywhere, ever.

So you spent $5 on a game. Assuming you pay a subscription to WoW, how much does that cost you in a month? $15, $20, depending on where you live? Plus the cost of the game itself, expansions costs and any ingame services.

So someone could theoretically spend around $20 on DI per month and not exceed what they spend on WoW. The difference being that anything spent on DI is voluntary.

Almost everyone out there does not hate cosmetic microtransacations that do not provide player power. What people hate are pay-to-win MTX which provide player power

Exactly. We dont know the PC revenue totals but if they are good, then Blizz just created a proof of concept for future PC games

Not even close, otherwise no one would be playing Diablo Immortal.

Metacritic user ratings are garbage and they always have been. People use it as a way to review bomb and give games a score of 0 for arbitrary reasons. Class got nerfed in this expansion? 0. Lara Croft doesn’t have revealing outfits? 0. Game slightly inconveniences you by requiring you to download the epic launcher? That’s a 0.

An actual objective review of Diablo Immortal would give the game a 5 or 6, because the actual gameplay itself is good, it’s just the game is ruined by the mobile game MTX.

Metacritic has been a joke for a long time thanks to those handful of trolls review bombing products.
