Microsoft Lays Off 1900

Bfa raids were awful save for Zuldazar. SL really only Nathria was good SoD was if you tanked. When its done through normal ingame means why is everyone so bothered by boosting? (I assume power leveling and dungeon/raid carries)
Its not against the ToS. Wows levling is absolutely terrible still. If you’re not using RMT, its a decent way to make or sink gold. Lets face it, starting from scratch for every alt slowly building up is wasteful and pointless in that situation. If you’re running alts for that purpose you probably have a large understanding of the dungeons/raids and probably the spec class you swapped too.

Palworld is really fun tho :dracthyr_love_animated:

Company mergers often precede layoffs because of redundancies. Microsoft already had some customer service, marketing, legal, etc…people.

Whoever this surprised had little knowledge of business.

See my above comment. Not necessarily.
Depends on what was cut.

As for your comment of this being an example of crony capitalism…how so?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crony_capitalism#:~:text=Crony%20capitalism%2C%20sometimes%20also%20called,largesse%2C%20and%2For%20corruption.

How exactly did this merger profit from an inside relationship with the government?
Or do you mean to say…capitalism, full stop?

Is there a way we can voice our frustration at Microsoft? My friend lost her job and had no warning. This was her and her husband’s source of income an they have 2 kids. She was there for over 10 years.

Maybe the shareholders should take a paycut? Makes me so mad this happened. I mean, Microsoft dare not show up to BlizzCon because they will be boo’d off the stage.

which all feels like fake team building. There’s a large difference between that and true camaraderie.

You could go to their social media and like X (Twitter) and go to their official page and complain.

Honestly won’t do anything though. Plus not unique to Microsoft. Multiple gaming companies across the board are laying off employees left and right.

That does suck, but shareholders are people too. There is no easy path here by demonizing normal people like me whose retirement is bound up in stocks.

Now, golden parachutes and massive bonuses even when things flop. Now we’re talking. That’s CRONY CAPITALISM. These layoffs are happening everywhere as certain markets correct from the frenzy of COVID spending sadly.

Edit: and the statistical chance of a person whom:
Happens to post on the forums, knows a couple who BOTH work for blizzard, and BOTH had positions that were cut, and this couple happens to have kids is pretty minuscule.

Press (X) for doubt.

Pretty sure nobody will be playing that in 2 weeks. A bit of a novelty.

I mean they cant really cut pay to shareholders anyway. That just means cutting dividends which most people see as a really bad sign and that’ll put more pressure on the company to tighten finances by doing things like closures and layoffs.

I dunno! It beat Elden Ring and Cyberpunk’s records for concurrent players at 1.8 million and has sold over 11 million copies, and it’s only in early access! While I agree it may be anomalous the numbers make it difficult to say gamers aren’t hungry for something, and seeing that it’s a survival crafter at its core I don’t think the market’s done with them yet.

Or maybe it’s just because it’s a dollar store pokemon game idk :dracthyr_shrug:

While that’s thoroughly depressing, I still don’t see it with any longevity. But you never know. The gaming world keeps getting ruined by nonsense so every game becoming a survival builder would be in line with that.

Will it eventually become Microsoft world of Warcraft?

Wanna be even more depressed? I just read Palworld is also on Microsoft GamePass :dracthyr_crylaugh:

The husband does not work for Blizzard according to the post. However, the answer here is that it is real. The lady in question was the sole income earner in the home. I could link the Twitter feed for the person (I think) but that seems rude and invasive to do that, even if it is a public Twitter post.

This whole thing is crushing for those impacted. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is ok with a sudden job layoff. Esp not one that feels career ending from their dream company.

Be kind. It costs nothing.

You take your common sense and business IQ out of here sir. According to the forums the best way to help the employees is thus:

  1. Make the company less profitable by harming stockholder interests
  2. The company loses value and needs to adjust by….
  3. Laying people off or going out of business.

And then more people get laid off, which sucks and then people’s investments tank. Which, unlike this forum “wisdom” understand would hurt many middle class people.

Edit: I also wonder how many current and former blizzard employees are also stock holders. Often companies give stock options as a bonus.

Maybe Microsoft can finally figure out how to stop bots ?

You are right. I misread. If you notice, I’m not mocking those laid off or being mean to them at all. I’m replying to these forum posters whose “solutions” would just make things worse. People have feelings and positions but lack knowledge and arguments. It feels good to say certain things, but it doesn’t help anybody truly. For instance, you might feel good saying “let’s boycott the game!” Well, that would only cause further layoffs. But people don’t care about that. They just want to show how virtuous they are.

I feel for those without a job. I’ve been there before. I’d also bet many of those laid off aren’t very surprised by this because they’ve know the trends. Knowing doesn’t really help though unless you’ve made plans. Or you can use the severance they typically get to find another job.

Some positions are redundant with Microsoft teams, so yes, I am sure some folks expected their position might be eliminated. A lot of the positions were not ones that were expected though. Like, I don’t think the whole CS/TS department expected to be eliminated and outsourced overseas. I just… I do that stuff myself and it takes years to learn the Blizzard games and systems. At least if someone wanted to do it well.

The thing that bothers me most about some of these layoffs. They FORCED people to move to California in the past few months with their “return to office” policy. People who were hired remotely during the Pandemic.

Many have now given up their whole former lives and residences, relocated themselves and their family, only to lose their job a few months later. Now they have no job and live in one of the most expensive places in the entire USA.

WHY MAKE THEM MOVE JUST TO LAY THEM OFF! That is more than just a job loss. That is devastating. Severance does not make up for that.

While I’m the farthest thing from an advocate for Microsoft it was ActiBlizz who made them move and come back to the office, not MS :dracthyr_shrug:
