Microsoft lays off 1900 Activision Blizzard & Xbox employees. Mike Ybarra is out

Kind of scary for WoW because you know these terminations weren’t done by people who had intimate knowledge of the projects these people were working on, their personal ability, or their passion for their job. It was just people looking at spreadsheets and saying “this doesn’t make sense” and hacking away costs to benefit their bottom line. If it can be done for one project/game it can be done for WoW too and will in time. There’s also no chance whoever gets replaced cares more about WoW than the people currently there. It will just be people passing through to benefit their career and report good profits until they move onto something better.

Warcraft rumble one of the worst handled mobile games I’ve ever played. Blizzard quality slipping and now looks like trying to cut costs

This is pretty common.

Explains why we’ve seen no tuning. They’re all scared for their jobs.

I will say, things could get worse for us and not better, if we’re judging Microsoft based on their EA games. EA is notoriously bad with how they milk their customers and releasing half made products.

Pretty comon as far as layoffs go after a merger.

What’s not common is Ybarra & a founder leaving; to me it sounds like they weren’t a fan of the direction MS wants to go with the IPs.

As far as that being good or bad, guess we’ll see.

I was wandering what Microsoft would do once they took power, looks like cleaning house.

CEO Bobby filled leadership seats with people like himself, greed n share holders is the top of importance, players is way down at the bottom of priorities.

GOOD FOR MICROSOFT! There are NO GMs in game, its all an automated report system, then someone might look into reports days later. Thats why no one stops the bot armies running free in every part of the game.

MONEY, allll of that pay to win stuff by 3rd party groups selling things in game, yeah thats money that could be going to Microsoft, I can see times are a changing.

Agreed, Microsoft is all about milking every cent from the player. All of the Bots and organizations making money off of wow, I can see Microsoft coming at them hard. They are not gonna let one penny escape lol.

GAME BLOAT, Microsoft is going to radically change the game to bring in new players, to make wow more appealing to the masses. The game is kept alive by an aging player base, not bringing in new gamers.

New gamers see the minimum 45 keybinds, 12 hour course study on how to learn and use a single addon, and say heck w that, quit game lol.

I hope Microsoft cleans out the whole dang company, it needed a purge for a long long time… Scandals, accusations, good old boys club, Cosby room, federal state investigations, yeah it needed a PURGE lol.

I can only imagine Microsoft as massive, giant, soul sucking machine tbh.

It’s pretty common in acquisitions. A lot of positions become redundant. You don’t need two payroll departments, for example. Obviously it’s never positive when people get laid off and we all hope they land on their feet and what not. But it’s par for the course.

True, I am just hoping for the best.

Not any better than what we had before the merge lmao

I think Blizzards biggest issue was that it got too big for its own good. It can only get more greedy when a giant company like Microsoft takes over.

When companies like that take over, your fun does not matter. They will focus on metrics that they know will attract more customers.

They are soulless machines that quantify your emotion of fun based off numbers on a spreadsheet.

This. Plus, I don’t know how many of you ever tried to get a job at Blizzard or Microsoft but it’s not easy. They don’t take just anyone, these people are all very talented/smart people. It sucks they lost their job for sure, but they are very employable and will find new jobs.

Welcome to capitalism? All companies that were created for passion start as fun but eventually have investors and/or shareholders to deal with. Blizzard is nothing more than a brand with recognition now and that’s all they wanted it for.

It really is unfortunate that’s how the system is.

Mike Ybarra touched me in a dream before.

Their biggest issue was being devoured by activision cause they seen a big dollar sign with it. Its what got them into this mess to begin with

Without the creatures that run activision strangling blizzard, blizzard would have became just as big as activision themselves if they just kept doing what they were doing. But no small companies with a HUGE future always do the dumb thing and take money they didnt even need and end up selling themselves to satan himself just for a dollaridoo

That too. Game got increasingly bad after woltk. They need to hire a visionary with a goal in mind.
