Microsoft is buying Discord?

hope we can get windows integration
how can they mess this up really

Either that or they are weighing their options.

dude… im using windows without MS account auth for years… i doubt theyd force ms auth for discord

if they dont require it for their main product i doubt theyll require it for a side product. thatd be dumb.

10b is huge! minecraft being bought for 2.5bil made a lot of ppl talk. 10b is 4 times higher heh

thats a crazy amount of money. id have a hard time spending it in 10 lifetimes.

Sooo
We’re all going back to vent I guess?

The second they tried to pull that crap with Office, out they went and I started using Open Office on everything I needed it for. Never looked back.

i still know my number from 1997! 3851686. it seems all the info is gone and theres a new ICQ…

Don’t care. Discord’s privacy policy, data harvesting, and general practices are already so awful Microsoft might actually make things slightly better. Of course one of the reasons MS probably wants them is data but I just do not see how they can have worse privacy policies than Discord itself.

And if MS kills it? Also a victory. In that maybe something else better will arise or at least maybe some people will go back to larger internet communities rather than hiding in discords and acting like they’re their super secret awesome internet forts when Discord can see everything you do and in practice they’re great spots for harvesting enough data to doxx people because people get the idea that requiring an invite = gated community = privacy which isn’t true. I hate that everyone expects everyone else to use that trash. What used to be things you could find on open internet forums are now in gated discord micro-communities. That and all the spam ā€œplease join my discordā€ ā€œand mineā€ ā€œand mineā€. Too many people use it for something it’s not and expect everyone to scroll back through every community they’re in every time they hop online to see what they missed.

To be fair, I’m sure you use lots of things that a made by greedy corporations.

microsoft has over time learned to keep their hands off things or they’ll just mess it up. see: games for windows live.

that said, it’s still sad to see irresponsible megacorps gaining even more power…

I don’t trust Bill Gates. For some reason, the media treats the guy like he’s an expert on everything, when in fact he doesn’t have a degree in anything. Also, his connections to Jeffrey Epstein and his island are a little weird.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Bethesda have been ruinning their own games for years.

Eat the bugs!

I’m firing up Roger Wilco, to hell with that Vent nonsense.

It’s the opposite, really. In the 80s they really were that evil (so was IBM). The late 90s was their bumbling incompetence phase, and then they sort of rehabilitated themselves… emphasis sort of.

Don’t care don’t use it.

Ooo that sounds wild.

er.

Name checks out I guess.

My entire CompSci Univeristy Department runs tutorials, help-desk and student chat exclusively on Discord because it’s just that good, works nice an easy for a high volume of students doing online learning.
