Pffftt… if you want to overpay for raw fish. If you live in the U.S or Canada, just know that like… at least 80% of Japanese restaurants are actually owned and operated by Cantonese folks that know 6 slices of raw fish will sell for 2x more than a whole fish braised in XO sauce. They also love that they can use as much MSG as they want as long as they call it “umami”.
You realize Japanese food is more than just sushi right?..
Ramen shops are primarily owned by Cantonese too bruh.
Have you never heard of hibachi?
This is crazy talk.
Sure a bean burrito is amazing but is no where near superior to a lovely, meaty lasagna.
Yes. Unless it’s a restaurant that only does hibachi/izakaya then it’s still most likely owned by Chinese. e.g. if you go to a place with one of them mega menus that has sushi, ramen and a hibachi section.
Hibachi by itself isn’t mega popular yet so the ones that solely do small grill that I’ve been to seem to actually be Japanese owned.
Generally correct. Italian food is normally too heavy.
French food is better than both, but only sometimes. Not something you want to eat all the time.
You also have to consider different places takes on OTHER countries food. Texico food is awesome. American twist on Mexican food.
The ONLY Indian food i can enjoy is British style curry. It’s inspired by authentic curry from India, but with a western twist.
Question, does it matter who makes the food? I see you saying it isn’t Japanese owned or made a lot. Alot of restaurants you see aren’t owned by the ethnic group that invented them.
It REALLY does matter who makes it. Read my post right above you for 2 prime examples.
Provided there’s no cilantro/coriander, I’m game.
Italian food stans really, really like getting mad about their food though.
Then can anyone make Mexican food besides actual Mexicans?
Yes and no. I don’t like real Mexican food, but Texico and Calican food is amazing.
To be clear i don’t mean the race of the people actually making it, i mean the recipes and styles used. If you get some Swedish woman who prepares Mexican exactly as they do in a small mom and pop place in Merida. Then it will be the same. But if she changes it to suit her local population, then it’s not.
I agree, but it’s close. I love Burritos, quesadillas, and Gorditas, and not much else from Mexican. I love Lasagna… and that’s it with Italian lol. Pastas are good, but i have to be in the mood for it. So Mexican is better. But BBQ is better than both
The amount of people in this thread saying they don’t like authentic Mexican food is troubling.
In some manner no and in some manner yes.
It bugs me that people place Japanese food on this pedestal while most other asian food (particularly Chinese) are considered cheap and dirty. Japanese culture in general is seen as this honorable, hoity toity culture of immense skill and talent when most people that have this mindset are eating sushi prepared by Chinese people.
So no, it doesn’t matter if Chinese people make Japanese food cause most of the time it still tastes great but I hope people realize that it doesn’t take this immense skill level to cut a slice of fish and put it on a ball of rice at an acceptable level of being edible. Also, this blatant disrespect towards other asian cultures for using MSG but when Japan rebrands it as “Umami” it’s all of a sudden a new flavor.
If your serious, and interested, come on by and try my spaghetti tacos. They are to die for.
I’m only judging by the taste of the food. But to be honest I may be biased because I’ve had a terrible experience at a Chinese restaurant before.
I was getting a to go plate and saw a rat the size of a possum walk out of the kitchen…
It doesn’t even count as food, little less Mexican food.
I just threw up a bit thinking about that.
Of course, Thai food > Chinese food >> all other foods. Discuss.
/moo
Depends on how high end of food your going for.
Great thing with Mexican food is even the cheap stuff taste great. while cheap Italian food taste like trash.
But good Italian food on the other hand is hard to beat.
