Method getting around PL

I’m sure there’s going to be people blabbing about why they should care and to that I say d(^.^)z to you!

Personally I just found this interesting to listen to. From about 3:18 to 4:30 Joshpriest talks about how they made a huge effort to get around PL restrictions by emptying three servers worth of materials to powerlevel professions and they are sub sequentially about 100 million gold in debt. At the beginning he also talks about how they used a plate run to coin the first boss in an attempt to get the weapon so they could trade loot in the future.

I agree what they did is interesting and applaud them for finding an inventive in-game solution to their problems that didnt involve cheating.

Past that, I really dont care. Some people hate it and some love it but at the end of the day blizzard solved a problem by executing the easiest solution.

I think it’s important to realize there’s never going to be a perfect solution, especially when they make it so there’s only one option.

The argument of being able to control where loot goes versus abusive loot councils aside one thing I’ve learned to be disappointed about with PL is that getting offspec gear is infinitely more tedious. You’re relying on other people playing different roles that get loot they don’t want and then to throw it your way. I have no tank trinkets and my sword and board are massively out of date because of this. I’m not going to change up my loot spec and potentially pass on a TF weapon or trinket, but I’m never going to get them that way if I don’t. In the past you’d kill a boss, see what drops, and put in OS for the tank trinket, or a staff you’d use to heal.

Already had a thread on this and who cares what crazy competitive people do.

Josh is just being a whiner about things and trying to push blizzard into changing things - that is why all of a sudden he is discussing some of the crazy things they do each and every time.

I find it funny how people made such a big deal out of limit race changing. Meanwhile method spent 200,000,000 gold to transfer to all servers to buy all boe’s and profession mats. Watch the video. It is insane. Their ilvl was so much higher than limit because they used real life money to buy gold to buy gear. It is ridiculous.

It’s interesting that they did it. And I’m glad for them they were able to. But I wish it was something more of us could get access to.

Because it’s awful that Blizzard put in place something that incentivized them to do it in the first place.

Master Loot was a good, and usually fair and just way to do loot for most of the teams that ever used it. Even Blizzard themselves confirmed that “abuse” was rare and not the reason they decided to remove it.

The inferior and terrible Personal Loot system was fine for pugs where no one had any reason to trust each other, but forcing it on everyone guild groups included and treating everyone like a bunch of children that had to be molly coddled and micromanaged instead of treating players like adults capable of making their own decision on what kind of loot systems they consented to… was a miserable choice.

I think it’s time they need to do the world first race on a separate server and dial this kinda craziness down.

The change was to try and help the worst of the worst of wow’s community pug.

It was never about stopping method…

I think it’s even MORE important to realize EVERYTIME they try to stop the top guilds from doing this garbage, it ends up hurting normal guilds progressing thru content and the top guilds STILL do their thing.

Yeap, 22 heroic bosses this week. On 3 different toons, and i got ONE piece of loot that was so bad i gave it to some random DH in the group, “ring off jadefire.”

I realize that, but if there’s any talking point to be had it’d be that if top guilds are doing this (Method being the most extreme) then it’s directly impacting the rest of the playerbase in some capacity.

We know that top guilds are going to do some crazy things, such as buy up any BoEs they need to regardless of price. They will also powerlevel professions, and back when professions had perks we saw everyone delve into double crafting professions. Now we’re seeing, at least Method but also probably others in top guilds, powerlevel professions to circumvent the PL system as best as possible which drains shared resources on the playerbase. If other guilds follow suit you’ll notice a more prominent effect depending on your server.

I mean I think he was just responding to a question that someone asked.

It’s really kind of crazy. 100 mil gold is about 17,000 dollars worth of tokens… they put themselves the equivalent of 17,000 in debt to be first in a raid tier…

I’m assuming they make at least that with the streaming and add revenue they get - but still…

What would you do with $17 grand? Invest in a video game?

Is that play to win? I don’t know. But it seems pretty close if they replay the gold debt with tokens…

It’s only debt if they pay it lol…

My guess is they made sweet heart deals with other guilds. We’ll take X player thru Mythic Jaina and they can get the mount. Or w/e

Well, when you’re being sponsored and paid to do it…

they likely spent very little IRL money if at all, they have a full system of pve raid buyers that keep their bank gold full.

They go on a relaxed raiding schedule now until the next raid tier. Assuming this tier lasts about 6 months they have plenty of free time and a plethora of ways to repay the debt. I think mythic carries these days go for millions of gold let alone special things like mounts and such. Then there’s heroic sales, mythic+ they can make for hundreds of thousands.

But it is amusing to know they went into debt in the first place (wonder if that’s tier specific or not). Makes me assume that, in the current system, they’ll never really have excess gold ever again. Although to be clear I’m sure they’re treating it like a line of credit that they have to repay.

All that effort for a world first. Roughly the equivalent of 1000 tokens, or $25,000 AUD simply for a world first.

Is Red Bull going to fund them for that too?

It’s what you call, “Good debt.” Think of it as an investment. They’ll easily make that back and then some.

all method did was exploit and they wont get banned for it.

100 million gold in debt. rofl

You know your system is on point when world first guilds are taking out loans to pay to win the gearing game so they have an advantage. GJ Blizz.
