Meta/Speculation re: Revendreth sins

Want folks thoughts on the following:

  1. How do you think 9.1 will continue regarding the last Medallion of Sin? How will we get it from The Stonewright? Will she work with us or against us?

  2. The “Wrath” sinstone mentions how the Military Ward was tasked to create beings to both defend Revendreth and do things “beyond”. Could the Stonewright have made the Dreadlords if the Enemy Infiltration speculation is right?

  3. Think we’ll see “Enemy Infiltration - Report” or “- Conclusion”?

  4. Is Denathrius’ Medallion of Dominion tied to Zovaal’s/The Maw’s power of Domination? The Medallion of Dominion could mass-control Venthyr easily, and Renathal says with enough anima it could alter the fabric of the Shadowlands.

  5. Of the Seven Deadly Sins, two were replaced: Gluttony and Sloth. Their replacements were Dominion and Dread. Gluttony makes sense to replace (would probably hurt some feelings lmao, although Gluttony isn’t what people think it is, the sin is consuming without need or desire, more like addiction), but why replace Sloth? Could there be a reason for why Sloth was replaced, i.e. the beings of Revendreth are always doing something? Plotting?

Gluttony seems to be the Sin that is primarily dumped into the Endmire from the southern side of the Halls of Atonement! Seems the Accuser sees Gluttony as just waste to get rid of!

Sloth manifests as Fatigue(which uses Overwhelming Depression as an attack indicating it’s Depression Fatigue) in the Catacombs of Regret which The Curator Harvester if Avarice rules over along with the rest of the Catacomb Ward!

Of course it seems said Fatigue is the Eastern Runoff of the Castle Ward! The Countess clearly doesn’t want anything interfering with the Venthyr’s Desires!

Hope is a Sin as well since it is expelled from the Soul during the Fearstalker’s Hunts in the Banewood!

The 7 Deadly Sins harvested and consumed in the 7 Wards are Domination, Pride, Desire, Wrath, Dread, Avarice/Greed and Envy.

The lesser Sins are Depression(eastern runoff of the Castle Ward found in the Catacombs of Regret), Gluttony(southern runoff of the Ceremony Ward in the Endmire), Hope(remains of Hope expelled by the Fearstalker’s hunts in the Banewood) and Doubt(spawned within Sanguine Depths)!

Honestly I’m still not entirely convinced they’re from the Shadowlands. Mainly because of the name of that tower. It really doesn’t make sense for them to be called “Unseen Guests” in their place of origin.

I’m more inclined to think Denathrius is one of them who infiltrated the realm of Death before any of the other cosmic domains, and created the Spire of Unseen Guests in Sinfall as part of remaining in coordination with them while he was playing his part as master of Revendreth.

Heck, maybe the point of his activities instigating the Light’s invasion was to deliberately occupy their army and prevent them from stepping in while the fel-corrupted dreadlords initiated their plan to lure Sargeras into going bonkers.

When it comes to gluttony, while not attributed a Medallion, it is treated as a punishable sin. Inquisitor Temel (Moongo the Sun King in life) is accused of deeds that include amassing great power, material wealth and divine gifts, yet still stealing even more that he didn’t need.

As far as sloth not being a relevant sin in Revendreth, it’s worth noting that anima accumulates through the scope and relevance of one’s deeds in life. So sloth is by definition more likely to limit the effects of one’s presence in the world than the rest, thus reducing the likelihood of a slothful soul arriving in the Shadowlands with enough anima to be worth punishing on the level of Revendreth. Someone who’s slothful on the scope of the other sins’ worst offenders would probably be too lazy and indifferent to have had much of an effect on the living world around them, so they wouldn’t produce very much anima in death. The more slothful one is, the less they’ll be assertively influencing their surroundings.

The Stonewright will almost certainly be swayed - they’ve made it very clear that the rebellion’s Stone Legion forces would never consent to any kind of violence against her.

As to the sins, I see why they ditched Gluttony - in most cases, it overlaps with Greed. (And your own description - that it’s actually more like addiction - is even worse. Addiction is a sin?)

Dominion doesn’t seem to actually be a sin, as far as I can tell. We only see it referenced via its harvester medallion, not as a manifestation or something in need of purging.

Alternatively, maybe there is no need to compare these things to the seven deadly sins at all, and such speculation is just the result of watching too much FMA?

Nah theologically, Avarice is specifically a desire to obsessively have material things. Difference from Envy which is having what others have, and Lust which originally is Luxuria/Luxury, which is having an excess of opulent things.

Gluttony/Gula theologically is consuming without need or desire. Doesn’t have to be food, but in the case of food it’s comparable to when one is sad and you decide to engorge yourself on an excess of food (pizza, ice cream, chocolate).

I compare it to addiction because in many cases addicts consume things or media (drugs, lewd material, sex) without need or true desire. The difference between addiction and gluttony is in addiction, you have no true free will in your actions because you’re “trapped” to an extent, gluttony you are forcing yourself to consume through complete free will even though you have no want or desire.

My joke however is that Gluttony is usually imagined by people to be “Being Fat” and that’s it, so putting Gluttony as a Cosmic Sin for Revendreth would lean into a lot of meme stereotypes of gamers lol

The Dominion “sin” per the sinstone is more like, “Transgression”. Renathal’s medallion gives the bearer the power to control and overrule the will of other venthyr, which would be to keep venthyr who abuse their power or venthyr who “relapse” in check.

The Revendreth Sins are literally based on the Seven Deadly Sins lmao that much is transparent. The punishment for the sins are even parallel depictions in Dante’s Divine Comedy in some cases.

The Wrathful Souls in the Military Ward are seen drowning in pools (like in Dante’s Inferno), souls in the Halls of Atonement (Pride) are always depicted as having their sinstones on their back (like in Dante’s Purgatory), and while they replaced Sloth, the punishment in the Forest Ward is running as a form of penitence (Dante’s Purgatory).

The fact that the Wrathful are drowned in pools explains the Manifestations of Desperation wandering around!

Desperate Despair ravaging the Military Ward is no surprise if they are drowning the Wrathful to get them to atone!
