The easiest way to settle the controversy and outcry on Metamorphosis requiring to run BFD is to remove the quest The Orb of Soran’ruk as the pre-requisite on starting The Conjuring.
Also Shaman’s Earth Shield’s quest item should drop from mobs outside of the dungeon.

It’s not controversy - it’s the way it was made to be and people are crying about it. Whining and controversial are two totally different things.
I HATE raiding, and I can’t wait to dive into the line to get this rune. It actually gives me some incentive to explore in order to gain something that could be seriously awesome.

Having to clear the raid to get your rune is silly.
People should be able to tank as rogue and warlock while lvling

And they can.
From level 25-60
Druids don’t get cat form until 20.
Shadow Priests don’t get form until 40.
etc.
Lots of classes get key abilities very late in classic.
This isn’t different.
Edit: And in fact I think it’s MORE fitting that there’s a relatively minor gate in place for something like this for a Classic based game. Class quests are extremely prevalent in this game. This one actually makes you accomplish something.

I disagree, because this is more of a spec not an ability.
You have to clear the raid as a dps lock, and have another player who maybe didnt want to tank, spot tank in the meantime.
Season of discovery is all about discovering that some runes may be harder or easier to obtain than others.
I really don’t know what else you’d expect out of this season except getting everything handed to you on a silver platter? I guess this idea doesn’t digest with everyone.

Except they have already admitted it was implemented against their own design rules, was a mistake, and runes won’t be in raids in future phases.
Not everyone is able to raid unfortunately. Saying to just re-roll if i want to tank is a valid argument, but im sure you can understand if its not what i would want to hear.
I would absolutely love to get a raid group together and dive in head first to get this rune, but i literally can not guarantee that i can play for that long consecutively without having to step away for sometimes several hours. Raiding is not an option at all for me, and im upset that real life circumstances that im already resentful about are preventing me from enjoying the game even more than usual.
I am late to the conversation as I just started playing classic - and the specific reason was in fact to tank as a warlock. I jumped in with enthusiasm being familiar with previous retail expansions where demon form was niche at doing such things. I was extremely disappointed to find out that max level of the seasonal phase was required to obtain the form. If there was a method of making a lower level dungeon a raid and getting 10 folks together to do the quest then - it would be a non-issue for most people I think. I also feel that even making some creative requirement like maintaining drain soul while taking damage without dying for a certain time window on a specific boss encounter would be more interesting. - or some quest requiring a party of 5 warlocks to complete a certain boss together. The frozen murloc/ frozen trog was an interesting thing. “Get thing from raid” is not compelling. The few runes I have acquired have some fun quest ideas like combining found items into summoning devices - using a pre existing quest as a gate for the game-changing fun feature - in a raid - at “max” seasonal level is not a fun thing. You dont need Benediction/Anathema to be a priest - but getting it in vanilla was an achievement. You didnt need to do your mount quest as a warlock or paladin to ride a horse. You didnt need to do the bird form quest to fly as a druid in BC. The riding/flying could be “handed to you” for gold. You didnt need to upgrade tier 0 to tier .5 - but running strat in the time needed was crazy fun - and full soulforge? [::chefs kiss::] So questing for desired things is not unheard of - but you didnt have to do raids for any class specs; the caveat being SKILLS could be acquired via books that were non-binding - many dropping from harder instances. But the community could trickle down / pass on extras to the rest of the community. (Tranq shot being a BoP book in MC) and even if there was a precedent for such; specializations from raids - this is a different monster of an issue all together. This stair-stepping seasonal-phase releasing feels like an excellent move in making more casual players more familiar with various aspects of gearing characters and learning what impact paying attention to the details of gear selection can do - but someone that wants to tank with a class having to wait to do so via a raid-gate reward is not something anyone in the community should want - and the “want something for nothing” argument is a cop out. More tanks early and often benefits every one. We should want tanks that are able to do so as soon as they can dungeon and get experience in 5 mans.
You NEED demon form rune to tank - and it should not be gated the way it is. This season being the “season of discovery” - perhaps there is a hope there is some corner of Azeroth with a stone unturned that has another method for acquiring the rune waiting for us. It seems unlikely - but maybe.
