Why is meta cooldown 4 min versus the standard 3 min for most strong dps cooldowns? It doesn’t burst tremendously hard, though it does give some leech, but even so for the overall damage it brings it seems like it should just be 3 min and make it less of a headache to time with standard fight lengths and raids planning heroism with cooldown stacking.
Probably for legacy reasons and just to be different. It was 5m in Legion, reduced to 4m via artifact traits (or even shorter, if you got it on your relics). When they removed the artifact traits, they rolled in the CD reduction baseline, but that still leaves it at 4m. Personally, I don’t really see it as that much of a problem, but it is rather annoying when the strategy calls for not using Lust at the start and instead lining it up with 3m CDs later in the fight. Then again, peeps with 2m CDs face a similar issue in that regard. That’s one reason I love having the traits needed to make Calling the Shots the optimal talent on my MM hunter, because it functionally reduces Trueshot from a 2m CD to a 1m CD (lining up with Double Tap). Makes aligning it for damage windows much easier.
And at least we’re not in a situation like warlocks, where they dominant talent build for all 3 specs has 2 or 3 CDs all of different cooldowns. Aff has Darkglare at 3m and Dark Soul at 2m. Destro has Infernal at 3m and Dark Soul at 2m. Demo has Demonic Strength at 1m, Tyrant at 1.5m, and Nether Portal at 2m. It’s just all over the place.
Edit: oh, and to be fair, I’m pretty sure Meta is amongst the longest duration DPS CD in the game at the moment. Most DPS CDs are 10-15 seconds. The only other ones that I can think of that are 30s are Fire Elemental, both versions of Incarnation, Infernal, and Icy Veins if you take Thermal Void (which can actually go longer than 30s, the talent just set it to a baseline duration of 30s). And via Demonic, we’re typically continuously in meta form for closer to 45-55s.
yea I don’t want them to touch HDH at all. keep your d@m hands off her Biff! VDH a whole different story. but if they touch havoc they gonna nerf it (I mean they wont because of mythic meta right now)
I think it is fine at 4 mins. With Demonic build I can keep an uptime on Meta for about 40-50% of the fight if the fight last through 2 Meta CDs (a fight longer then 4.5 mins) and I have CT to help but it mostly helps with fights with adds IE Opulence or M+.
Honestly, havoc is only overpowered in m+. In raids we only excel at stacked fights like jadefire. Our strength in m+ is due to our natural cleave and Fel Barrage being AMAZING at large pulls. Since trash is such an integral part of m+, we’re going to be top tier.
As far as meta being on too long of a cooldown, several important points already made are how strong of a cooldown it is and how long we can stay in it. Looking at some of my parses, I’ve seen meta lasting for 55-60 seconds regularly. We have to give credit where it is due, because that is quite strong.

Your problem is you are overlooking eyebeam is a 30 second cooldown and provides the full burst potential as our meta cooldown.
And as many have stated we have a 55 second burst window. If you actually did the math of how much we are in metamorph during the whole 4min cd you would be astonished at how long our burst actually is.
