Messages Getting Censored

After the new patch released, I, and others, noticed that messages with certain words flagged as inappropriate will now hide the message entirely and instead say “Message from ‘Player’s Name’ is potentially inappropriate. [Show Message]”. You can then click the “show message” text to view it.

I have mature language filter turned off, but after looking at the settings I noticed another setting above it. “Censor Messages”. By default the option is set to “Everyone except friends”. So this is an additional mature language filter ontop of the already existing option to toggle it on or off.

The default setting censors messages for “Everyone except friends”, however, this does not include bnet friends. This only means for friends that you’ve added just their in-game character to your friends list. So if my bnet friend swapped to another character I dont have added, their messages get flagged. Obviously the easy solution is setting the option to censor “No one” but for those that do wish to censor some messages but not from their friends, they have to add every alt that their bnet friend has.

While I do think its important to give players the ability to censor unwanted, inappropriate messages, adding this new option that defaults to censor message even though I’ve already toggled off the mature language is just, for a lack of better terms, annoying. My friends and I are adults, some of us use language as adults often do, and after the patch we were all unable to see each others messages because it was flagged for being inappropriate.

Has anyone else noticed this change? What are your thoughts on it?

Yeah man. It was in the patch notes.

It’s fine. I don’t communicate in the game anyway.

I think its dumb but I don’t bother using ingame chat for anything.

It’s just a filter for people you don’t know. Like when the PvP crowd gets all rage induced at people and wants to whisper scream at people.

You can choose to view it, then choose to report it. Or you can choose to not view it.

It’s your decision entirely and your decision on how to set your preferences.

So where’s the issue?

So change your settings.

It lets the rage monkeys scream their heads off, and others don’t need to listen to them. Win/win.

I guess so. I don’t personally see value in censoring any words, but if that’s what people want, then that’s what people want. :woman_shrugging:

Haven’t noticed it yet but I am always a fan of more options and personal control of my chat boxes.
