I’m writing the topic because of something that someone said about questie that I have to call complete BS on.
I’m going to lay this out in a very simple way and anyone that just wants to argue without posting an actual structure I’m just going to ignore you.
What’s with making addons with so many features it overloads the user with too much crap. Such as the problem I
Don’t get me wrong I understand people like options but if i want an addon for a bag to make my inventory simple, then it doesn’t need to have a flashlight, to glow at night with 6 colors, change color with the server, turn inside out, customize the interior with 102947821094810 colors, be able to wear it as a hip pouch, tun invisible during fights, have 5 different pages that can be customized with 9 names have 21094210948 icons to choose from. change the name color, make it darker/lighter with 6 shades and whatever else goes with it.
JUST MAKE THE DAMN BAG INVENTORY
This brings me to the point about questie.
Some of us in chat were discussing how some of the quest text are written so bad it’s impossible to follow just using the quest text in game, one of the quests being talekd about was Investigate the Blue Recluse" (Mage quest) and this is how Questie got brought up and someone said what if no one wants to use questie because it isn’t that simple to use, someone said, “How so just put it in the folder and load up the game?”…simple right…WONG it was then someone brought up how they did a search for that quest in questie someone asked
what do you mean?
They replied Open Questie, go to the advanced tab and you can search from there.
This triggered off a whole argument about how questie has no search and the first thing someone said WTH does OPEN questie even mean you can only open the settings you pres ESC, go to option then select addons click questie that is the only interface you can open so when you say open questing then say go to settings.
The person then said no you can click that ? over by your mini-map
Now this triggered an entirely new argument that has to do with interactions around the minimap the argument there was if you cannot click the day or night time icon circle then a player would not ever assume anything else around the minimap would be clickable either. And I’m not even going to reply to anyone that even tries to argue someone should. It doesn’t matter how many icons show up around the minimap I can easliy say they are there to let you know the addon is installed and no other reason so it’s an irrelevant argument if people want to say someone should know those are even interactive…What someone personally knows is not relevant.
I had absolutely no clue that the icons around the minimap were interactive and like a lot of people, I started playing this game way back in 2007. So to say people should know just because they play the game is total BS.
Then someone pointed out the the maker of the addon should have said that was something you can do and they didn’t. The maker of the addon actually hid menus and didn’t tell anyone they were there so how the hell did you even know to do that.Then they were confonted with show me where in the readme it says that and instead of the readme someone copied something off the website totally ignoring that the person said the maker of the addon needs to include it in the readme itself that comes with the addon
anyway the argument went back and forth but the fact is that argument proves people who make addons aren’t that smart. If you cannot tell the people who are going to be using it how to even access a feature, then it’s a garbage addon and you have no right to relealse it
Don’t bother defending the maker of the addon for anything it’s their fault people aren’t aware of the hidden menus and they need to be telling people there is no excuse for that. So they are 100% at fault. And i agree.
So to conclude this it’s exactly what I said the makers of addons need to stop putting all these pointless and cosmetic crap into addons and then not even telling people they made the ability to access menus by clicking on the icon around the mini-map
Once again I played wow back in the 2007 and until I saw this argument the other day I had absolutely no idea anything around the mini-map could be clicked on it never even entered my head that was a thing. So don’t say it’s something anyone plays knows because that is not true. How did I not know that was a thing, I don’t I just didn’t. And again no just because an icn shows up around the minimap doesn’t mean that means it’s now interactive all i did was thought that was just something noting there was something active I had no idea that yellow ? under the minimap even had anything to do with questie… So don’t try to argue people should know things they may not know and they’re trolling of they don’t.
especially for free stuff like WoW addons, there ain’t gonna be quality control. this is why I am an addon minimalist.
