No, seriously. Merge same-type servers (RP to RP, normal to normal) based on location and/or faction population. Will people on those RP servers throw a fit? Yeah, they will. They already lose their minds whenever they see people from other RP servers bleeding into Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Do it anyway. It’s the right choice financially, and it’ll really help out the people on dead factions/servers. Players on normal servers probably wouldn’t complain about it at all, as they only stand to benefit.
Obviously not all servers need to be merged. Those with a thriving population should be left alone until their numbers also drop low enough to warrant such an action.
This is very much needed. True with modern cross realm we can get by or by forming groups, but it’s just nice to know other players on my server sometimes.
This realm is great with its 5 connections, but i have some toons on ravenholdt…
Same way SWtoR did it. Older character keeps its name. Other one gets a free rename. Granted, it won’t be much of an issue for servers like Kirin Tor, with its population of like ten people.
Most people have at least a handful of connections left on their home server. Makes it harder for them to convince themselves to walk away. Rolling a new toon doesn’t mean you can’t go back to the old one, I’ll grant you, but the human mind operates in some very… interesting ways.
I honestly think if they insist on using phasing anyway, they should just merge the servers. At this point servers are just a barrier for players to interact with each other through trading and stuff, they don’t serve any other purpose.
Achievements and history with that toon. I’ve also transferred toons plenty of times.
This toon was on lightningsblade, but transferred min the ED for my guild, then the moved to illidan for a full realm, but after being there a while, i decided i like high pop and not full and not medium and def not low, so moved him back to original realm, but chose a different connected realm for a better “last name”. Xorno-Icecrown > Xorno-Lightning’sBlade, mainly due to LB is too long.
But thats one more reason connected realms are better.
I did that when i came back to wow at the end of BFA. I rolled this warrior. eventually i wanted to play my other characters, so slowly over time I’ve payed to move them over… I’ve paid for about 15 xfers so far. I personally have a lot of nostalgia when it comes to my old characters so orphaning them on a dead server wasn’t an option for me. now all my horde are on Area 52 and all my alliance are on Stormrage. This was an expensive option to be able to play on thriving servers
Unless you’ve interviewed everyone that plays this game, you don’t have evidence.
If you want to say “I don’t think it’ll be an issue,” then that’s totally a valid opinion, albeit wrong. But speaking for others is something no one gets to do.
