Mental Illness in WoW

Does it exist? Like, if a character started hallucinating or was going through some kind of mania, would other characters classify it as schizophrenia, or would it automatically default to “old gods did it teehee”? I know depression exists because Velen explained that Anduin wasn’t eating, drinking, or getting much sleep after his father died. Although such things can also be related to anxiety.

Not asking this because “muh representation” or anything like that. I just think it’s an interesting topic.

I really wouldn’t trust these writers with mental issues. It takes a lot of research

Seriously some of the stuff I read when researching for certain illnesses for characters made me wish I could erase everything from my brain.

Trauma is depressing to learn how it works

All we see of Azeroth is everything that has to do with warfare. I’m sure it exists. Teldrassil was traumatic. This is quite a sensitive subject, and I don’t want this to become another “LGBT represenation” topic.

wasnt one of the quest line characters on Argus kinda mentally off?

You have to remember you’re talking about a planet where it’s inhabitance went “holy hell is that Sargeras stabbing the planet? Meh, must be Tuesday.” So in a world where everyone has PTSD then everyone is “normal” I’m assuming.

Someone could already be schizophrenic. Y’know, people with mental illness just want to be treated like a normal person.

Did you forget about Medivh? In all forms of lore (books, comics, game, and the movie) he was characterized and deemed and viewed by others as being insane, having hallucinations, mania, etc… even he thought this himself…

however we all know the core reason was that he was possessed by the avatar of sargeras, but regardless of this, he was regarded as being mentally unstable by everyone around him, including by himself…

I honestly find this to be a trash take…

Your emphasis on limiting creative expression is distasteful. I hope Blizzard or anyone doesn’t take your trust" into account.

I don’t trust the writers to handle those issues properly nowadays.
They’d probably have the nuance of a brick through a window about it and muck it up entirely.

Mate. We still live in a time where people with DiD are used as horror villains.

There’s creative freedom and then there’s just demonizing people

Since mental illness is almost always just what everyone has but TOO MUCH of it, I’d say that there is obviously mental illness in WoW. We run across people doing fairly inexplicable things quite often. We’ve seen characters consumed by vengeance in destructive ways. We’ve seen religious mania. We’ve seen people so depressed in Westfall that they can’t get off their butts and kill a pig for dinner. . .

MENTAL ILLNESS yes it does i have a 65 I.Q and brain damage do to the lack of oxygen to the brain

How boring. I think a DiD individual can make for a great horror villain.

Emphasis on “CAN”

In their defense, they have boars and not pigs.
And you do NOT mess with a boar.

I don’t know if there is mental illness in Azeroth, but I do know that doing the same things day after day in Shadowlands really brings out my OCD.

You think we are actually god killing murder hobos? We got rolled by a lvl 2 boar in the starting area and the last 15 years have been a fear induced hallucination.

The Holy Priest Artifact Weapon in Legion is described as healing mental as well as physical wounds.

T’uure is one of the purest physical embodiments of the Light in existence. The dynamic energies that flow through this artifact can heal wounds both physical and mental. They can inspire hope in times of overwhelming darkness, and fortify timid hearts with courage.

This topic should just be not spoken on the wow forum. Total idiocy, I mean the people who obviously don’t understand what it’s like to have a mental illness

Yeah… I can’t even stand it when movies portray mental illness issues.
Wasn’t there a dust up lately over a movie someone made that… poorly displayed various mental illnesses?

We definitely don’t need to go sprinting into a minefield when it should be completely avoided.

It’s kinda a shame we can’t have LGBT+ rep topics without it getting flooded by the typical wow forum-brand stupidity.
