MEME, i mean melee survival trickling up the charts

blizzard, please for the love of all that is good, if you cannot revert survival back to its glorious form of ranged poison dot munition trap master, at least leave it at the bottom.

thank you, that is all. signed real melee classes!

I wonder what inspires someone to be so bitter?

Hey, if you are going to exaggerate might as well go all out!

No. Suffer.

i wonder why they didn’t make survival into a melee poison dot munition trap master instead

because rotational dps traps are really not fun to play with. we had traps in legion (explosive and caltrops) and it was just not very fun to use. even in shadowlands, when every hunter had soulforged embers (effectively a dps trap) nobody enjoyed it at all

well, i think there’s potential if it was made sort of like consecrated blade on ret where ranged attacks have a chance to chuck a trap/aote has a % chance to throw a trap at an enemy when you use mb. basically remove the manual target/macroed target clunk by making them passive

Throwing traps doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in general. They really aren’t traps at that point, they are grenades.

This is a very important point, even if addressing it isn’t easy. The only thing that comes to mind would involve button bloat, because I’d add grenade equivalents for traps as either a default thing for all hunters (meaning hunters would get double the buttons for crowd control) or something in the class tree you can spec into.

Considering that I remember seeing someone complaining that traps were fully visible in PvP, maybe it is time for an overhaul of hunter CC as a whole.

To add to this, in WotLK right now for optimal DPS in all 3 trees you run in to drop Explosive Trap. It’s sort-of tolerable there because it’s a less competitive environment and it adds some skill-based play to an otherwise fairly static gameplay loop compared to modern WoW but it’s still a good demonstration of why you probably don’t want it back.

It’s problematic because sometimes your trap will just fail to apply; the boss could be moving, the hitbox could be misleading (it’s very common for large bosses in WotLK, where the trap will literally be under the boss’s foot yet not go off because it’s not close enough to the centre of the hitbox which isn’t the same as the circle indicator), the enemy could be up in the air, etc. If you have a lot of the spec’s damage tied up in a trap it seriously sucks to then lose that damage to stuff like this.

In WotLK it was a lot worse because a) no trap launcher b) minimum range on ranged attacks and c) 1 sec arm time on traps. But in Legion SV used Explosive Trap as part of its rotation again and a lot of the same issues arose.

P.S. Check out some of the goofiness caused by the trap dancing meta:

someone’s mad they can’t play a hardmode spec.
