So I’m leveling a new rogue. I’m currently level 25 (when post was written) and I have a question about “melee” weapons. If I’m not mistaken, a dagger is a melee weapon so why, when I’m speced as an Outlaw rogue, can I not use my finisher “Dispatch” with a dagger equip? It has red lettering that says “Requires One-Handed Melee Weapon” I currently have the “Sharpened Scarlet Kris” equip. This is the Heirloom dagger that is defined as a “One Hand Dagger” compared to the “Venerable Dal’ Rend’s Sacred Charge” which is defined as a “One Hand Sword”
Sword = melee
Dagger = melee
Why does this not register for for the finisher???

For the same reason an Assassin or Subtlety Rogue can’t pull off their Special Attacks with a Sword/mace. I t doesn’t fit the spec!
That makes no sense. Why say required melee weapon instead of required sword, axe, mace. To define a spec by weapon type takes away from a players choice in play style. UGH! Why is blizzard always messing things up

Because swords are much more awesome. Good thing is that if you really want a dagger feel, there’s a few sword mogs that look like daggers. Take a look at my off-hand mog as an example.
Not worried about the look, I’m more worried about DPS. The dagger at this level is more raw DPS but i can not use the finished because the “spec” is restricted. This draws away from the players choice in play style. Its irritating that blizzard limits my choice in weapons like this. Its absurd really, IMO.

Yeah, I agree with you. At least you’ll be able to replace it within a couple of quests. Maybe one day they will loosen up the restrictions(doubt it.)
Only if you are looking at the base weapon damage and not the stat bonuses
Dagger Vs Sword listed
Sword Equip (reluctantly).
Hovering over the dagger, stat mods:
+0.3 Damage Per Second
+3 Critical Strike
-2 Haste
Raw damage is better and according to stat order Crit is better than Haste. The dagger is overall better is slot than the sword minus the fact it can not be used with finisher.
Outlaw MH has to be either sword, axe, mace or fist weapon.
Can use a dagger in OH tho.
