Okay, so I was an Enhance shaman in retail. I like that playstyle, being in the thick of things while also throwing around totems and shock spells. Now, I understand that enhance shaman aren’t exactly the strongest in Classic, but I’m rolling with it anyway. So I’m thinking about how I might be able to crank the most dps out of a melee based shaman, and I came up with an idea that I want some feedback on.
I’m thinking that I might be able to split directly down the middle between Elemental and Enhancement, grabbing all the shock spell and fire damage increases from elemental while ignoring the lightning bolt buffs. Similarly, I would be grabbing as much totem benefit and weapon strength as possible from Enhancement and ignoring the durability options. The end result is I wouldn’t finish either tree, meaning I’d miss out on both Elemental Mastery AND Stormstrike, but I would have powered up all the other aspects of my kit.
This idea is a little half baked and I’m not in any position to be running numbers right now, but I was hoping for some feedback on it. Any thoughts?
Well the real question is, are the extra talents into elemental more beneficial than stormstrike / more beneficial than early resto talents.
My hunch is no, but you should try it and let us know how it goes
While I love seeing the burst Windfury hits that Enhancement types pray for, it got me very bored hoping and waiting. At level 40 I went full on Elemental with seven points in the Enhancement tree to get 1 sec Ghost Wolf. I grabbed a 1H fast weapon and a shield. Loaded up on Int/Stam gear and go to town. Three LB casts and then melee them down is generally how I roll. Yeah I drink to get mana back, but it is far better than watching the white damage and hoping for three to pop up.
PvP is another story
Use the weapon called “Nightfall,” it applies a super powerful debuff that many raid groups will want.
As for builds, I’m sure there are plenty of resources. A quick look at Wowhead found a PVE enhancement build.
Legit a meme weapon at this point, nobody truly cares about having in and Hunters are the best NF users in the game. You NEVER bring an offspec to use nightfall if you’re serious.
You’re going down the right road. I went ele mastery 21/30/0. Stormstrike just isn’t usable because it takes almost a quarter of your mana no matter how much mana you stack in your build.
Fire totems talents, clearcasting, elemental devastation and elemental mastery add an amazing amount to an enh shamans ulitity belt in 5 mans and a little bit later in the 20man raids and AQ+.
Drop your WF/GoA twist. Let the tank pick up aggro, make sure every mob is below 100%. Fire nova then immediately twist to magma, back to a lower rank or nova if needed after 20s. Flame shock 2 targets, if you get a crit with FS that’s the best dps for mana. Always have rank 1 earth shock ready for interrupts. Interrupt everything. Remember even a lower rank shock can proc clearcasting, free dps. Sometimes after twisting my fire totems and casting a shock I’ll get a CC and if there’s 3+ mobs in the pull I’ll immediately use a chain lighting.
Build is all about bursting packs in dungeons and is very very viable. Do everything I just said and at the same time have your auto attack with windfury going off, top dps every pull.

There’s a couple of melee shaman builds that build into enh/ele without the sacrifice of stormstrike. Try em out.

I’m more thinking in terms of, it’ll possibly help you get into raids more than if you were just a generic enhance shaman.
