Melee hunter Lacking gap closing utility

I think we should get some gap closer like Harpoon or some kind of charge or else we face major disadvantages in pvp etc.

Would love to get a gap closer, perhaps instead of “disengage” we can get the “engage” rune that gets us into combat faster in pve and a gap closer in pvp. If nothing else perhaps get like a “net launcher” that roots the target for “x” secs.

They are aware, I am hoping a later rune adds Harpoon along with the Legion version root. There is a datamined Freezing/Frost arrow though, that could be their solution and it would be useful in all specs.

Melee hunter will still have all its ranged ablitues.

You’ll still have con shot and wing clip. Most of the time people will try to close their gap with you anyway.

Melee hunters still have access to their ranged attacks, Conc shot isn’t exactly a gap closer, but when you are moving twice as fast as your prey, it works out the same way.

Neither of the skills you mention are gap closers though, they are opponent speed reducers. There is a difference in slowing someone vs being on them almost immediately.

Speed reducers can be nullified by a FAP.

Probably will be a future rune for Harpoon as it’s an already existing gap closer for modern melee hunter

Do they even need a gap closer? Unlike retail Survival, SoD melee hunters will have access to their full range kit. Which is already so good that ranged classes try to get close to hunters so they can exploit their dead zone.

But maybe they will get something like retail Disengage or Harpoon later on.

Not every class and role needs a cc, mobility, slow, charge, etc. Hunters already have concussive shot. They might get a net throw as well. You don’t need harpoon when you can keep an enemy in place.

Edit: they could also add a cool rune for pet abilities. In wrath, spider pets got a web ability.

I really really hope they don’t make a full blown melee hunter build viable, contributed to the class being ruined in post MoP r*tail. Classic hunter is defined by having three distinct ranged dps specs with differing flavors of play. Melee’ing at the right time is something good pvp and pve hunters engage in when beneficial, but the class itself is absolutely not a melee class.

Adding abilities that contribute to melee weaving QoL is fine, however.

I would be fine with getting a gap closing, or a pull ability if that ability negated the hunter’s ability to use ranged attacks thru some method. Like if they gave us a melee-aspect say aspect of the wolf that voided the hunter’s ranged ability till they switched out of the aspect. Than giving us a gap closer or pull ability while in this melee aspect would make sense.

Melee hunter’s can have a gap closer as soon as ret paladins get one.

You realize a ranged snare IS your gap closer, right?

Look at the other melees:

Ret: No snare, no gap closer… They have a short range stun and the ability to Freedom themselves as their only “gap closers”

Feral: 20% move speed, and the ability to shift out of roots/snares.

Rogue: Stealth and sprint. That’s it.

Enhance: FRAWST SHOCK!!!111oneoneone… and earthbind.

Melee hunters are right in line with the rest of them.

Why do you need a gap closer for pvp when you’ll still be doing more ranged dmg than melee dmg? Just let them come to you.

No one tell him about concussive shot, aspect of the cheetah, or wing clip.

Right. So you conc shot the mage as hes moving away you pop cheetah and he wands you. Well played Mage, well played.

Then you shoot him with your ranged weapon while your pet attacks him because you are a hunter.

How is that relevant to a gap closer? You are now on your own topic of “How I tit for tat while avoiding the topic at hand”.

Its a fine line between a more homogenized, retail design that usually occurs 1 step at a time. So it’s good to be intentional about what classes really need in terms of utility. Let’s worry more about making the class fun to play, fit the fantasy, and then good in pve/pvp as well. We’ll get feedback at 25 what the main weaknesses of survival are. Worse to add it then take away if its too strong.
