You cannot do anything about Dodge. Even in the back 180 of a mob’s hitbox they happen. Block is front 180 only, non-issue if you don’t have aggro. Fun note, blocked attacks CANNOT be critical strikes, even if they are backed by +100% crit cooldowns (use cold blood against a warrior that has shield block up, you’ll get the big # pop like it was a crit but the damage will be in noncrit range).
Parry is the same way, front 180 only with a handful of exceptions (only one I can think of is Prince in Kara… for some reason he seems able to parry everywhere but EXACTLY 180 degrees away from where he’s facing, e.g perfectly behind him).
Glancings blows, best info I can find is the WoWWiki entry.
The general knowledge stuff is all accurate. 6% hit to cap yellow damage(for DW and for 2H) 9% for 2H to cap white. DW’s white hitcap is either 24% or 25% (19-20% for Combat Rogues as you get a free +5%) but for DW hit starts losing value after about 12% vs say, crit or AP.
The basics are well known and confirmed by Blizzard.
However, depending on the source, the dodge %, parry %, glancing %, block % and glancing damage reduction % are different. I need to know the best guess values for each and also how Weapon Skill will effect those values. I have looked at pretty much every common source.
Right now, it appears the best guesses against a level 63 mob, with 300 weapon skill are;
Attacking from the front:
Chance of Glancing Blow: 40%
Chance of Parry: 14%
Chance of Dodge: 6.5%
Chance of Block: 5%
Glancing Blow Damage Reduction: 35%
Attacking from the back:
Chance of Glancing Blow: 40%
Chance of Parry: 0%
Chance of Dodge: 6.5%
Chance of Block: 0%
Glancing Blow Damage Reduction: 35%
For the most part for sure. But don’t forget that +hit also pushes the crit cap higher, so with world buffs and whatnot, higher hit can actually become pretty beneficial in the 16-17% range.
