Anyone else finding playing melee extremely punishing in Mythic+? The amount of AoE’s and ground effects is pretty insane and they absolutely truck you. The worst part is that so many of the ground effects have very poor visual cues/visual clarity and in a fast paced fight it can be difficult to even tell when something on the ground is good or bad.
I’m finding I have to spend a huge portion of time just running away and not doing any damage at all given the sheer amount of effects that need to be avoided. Reminds me a bit of Delirium league in Path of Exile.
From what I’ve seen, Castle Nathria does not seem to be nearly as punishing for melee dps in terms of ground effects that prevent you from being able to melee.

I can deal my full combo without losing a single % as I move.
IF ranged even move while their cooldowns are up, they just drop like rocks.
It’s the trade off we get.
its a bit worse now with everyone having flashy aoe/covenant effects.
how am i supposed to see some faint telegraph when the kyrians and such paint the floor bright neon blue
theyve never been very good with that… last xpack it was purple on purple with a purple hue in m+10+

I haven’t raided since Vanilla WoW/TBC/Wrath and obviously the game is extremely different. But even from talking to other people it seems M+ Dungeons are just extremely punishing.
Thats the fun of being a melee. Esp as a rogue knowing which mechanic to cheest with cloak and evasion. GTFO is a good addon it esp helped getting used to all the new cov ground effects and when i need to move out
No question the more melee, the harder it gets to heal.
Yup, this is a ranged expansion.
I have a VDH and Druid… I prefer not to take melee at all or at worst will only take one. Once storming affix comes in is a no melee week by design.
VDH need to kite mobs around too much which means hunter tar traps and frost mages are nice additions.
I wanted to try M+ and other end game but I keep seeing Range being the go to, which is a shame since I can’t get into any range, they all just feel meh for me.
Speaking only for destro lock if we have to move at all our DPS is gone. Zero. We do nothing while moving.
But if we can freely cast we’ll be decent.
Edit: Some mechanics are just really punishing for turrets. Like Mueh’zala will incessantly target the ranged specs with Cosmic Collapse often following up with the melee splash. So as destro you’ll often be moving for a solid 5-6 seconds doing nothing at all. Feels bad.
I’ve noticed some PuG tanks have developed weird coping mechanisms of kiting everything to hell, too…
I get that some of these mobs and bosses hit hard but not only ranged DPS struggles, but healing becomes vastly more difficult chasing after the tank.
Oh well, just something I’ve noticed tanks doing that makes things needlessly challenging.

I think they are perhaps overly punishing too. Once you learn mechanics though, things do get easier.
Heroics and m0 should hurt less lol
BFA was like this. In higher keys the tank just kites them along.
Again illustrating that the dev team is clueless how their own encounters work in the meta space.
Now queue the replies that “you can do a 15 key don’t worry” that always follows replies like this. Hint: If you’re not meta you’re a bum to the pug community.

Yeah, for sure, some kiting should be expected. When it gets things out of 40 yard range it’s gone too far.

Laser disco twister style combat is the “in” thing now. Not my cup of tea, it’s a little too… “action game” for my tastes, but that’s probably an unpopular opinion so
Between the Night Fae blue circle, Dk Death and Decay, a druid green circle, paladin consecrate, there is a lot going on on the floor. It’s definitely made worse when your in Mists of Tirna Scithe for example, when you don’t know if the blue night fae circle is a player or a mob.

It’s pretty brutal. Im a healer, and I have 10 times more smooth runs on ranged groups than melee heavy groups.
Biggest issue I see is not the moving out of bad that’s the issue, its the mechanics that spread due to proximity. It can get out of control REAL quick.
Having a fox pop in melee on the first second boss of Mist can wreck a key.
My dude… Two words: Tenderize and Mutilate.
OUCH.
Can’t say I’ve had too many issues, granted there is a lot of stuff getting thrown down but after you know what the trash packs do it’s fairly easy to get out of most of the bad
The hard part is knowing when the bad is coming and what to do about it
2nd boss , but that fox is easy as mage i eat it on purpouse blink and continue my merry way
