Ik this couldnt happen now or even 2-4yrs from now but i really hope blizzard after a future engine update could consider alot less shards and alot less realms, so many dead realms should be merged imo and i think having a rp megaserver, pve megaserver and pvp megaserver(similar to faction balancing in SoD realms) would be pretty cool, ik rn its not at all possible due to the game/servers not being able to handle it but i hope blizz teases this idea in the future, its pretty cool on ESO when i can log in and just see players all over the overworld, all over the pvp cyrodiil map, friends of mine and ppl i never seen before all sharing the same shard. Wish Blizz would consider this sometime in the future.
The endgame rn does promote an arcadey approach and more solo play which both are heavily instanced so maybe sharding doesnt affect the average player but im sure itll be well received with less shards in future if this did happen
It would be really nice of them to do this, but I think the only reason they haven’t is because it’s a massive tangle due to names mainly, if they merge a bunch of servers into one mega-server, there’d be a huge amount of blowback if people were forced to change names.
The only way I could see them do it is finally modernizing and making it so names don’t have to be unique anymore and instead tied to your account some other way, so people can still identify the right person they want
Yep i get the whole appeal of short/rare names, i have a few i really like but i dont believe they carry any real value so a system like the one you mentioned would be cool to me, i also noticed i give alot of my toons the same name but a vowel from another language in order to use it on same realm
I get what ur saying but i havent played a game with megaservers where that experience was the experience for most and deterred them, eso, albion, and etc
One of the best things about eso and albion is i just find so many players and make friends i. Everything i do because theres never lack of a person nearby helping or doing the same stuff as me. I feel deeply connected, granted the gameplay in wow is funner to me and i understand the systems better so thats why i play this lol
I played swtor, iirc the exodus was heavily because lack of dev engagement and feedback. The lost names and guild names was a pretty minority take honestly
Thats a fair point tbh, why fix a problem when selling a solution is a better business strat, i actually didnt consider this when making the post but i see what ur saying
The only thing they need to do is just make crafting cross server and servers basically don’t even matter anymore, that’s the only thing left IIRC.
Some people like the feel of a small server, whether it’s making it easier to farm stuff or just experiencing the game without too many other people around to ruin the immersion.
I think Blizzard has found a good middle ground where everything is basically cross server so you can choose which experience you like best, a large server like Area 52/Stormrage, or a smaller server.
I like both and I like that I have the option to choose both.
Which is why I have some toons on moonguard, but they are in my small server guild.
I just don’t want to server xfer and lose my names.
Also pay for a server xfer to begin with lol.
