"medium" population realms

I don’t think medium means what it is supposed to mean. “Medium” feels like “dead”

I play on Anathema Horde, where you outnumber us 60:40 or something and the server isn’t even remotely dead.

Medium= dead within the next two weeks. Roll at your own risk and expect to be disappointed. Only the original servers will survive

“Medium” is not relative to the maximum number of players a server can hold, or a number threshold, it’s a comparison of that population to the server with the highest population.

Meaning, it fluctuates constantly. A “High” server could have an actual low amount of people on it, and dead servers would still say “Medium” even though it’s realistically unserviceable.

They changed it on classic to be the server vs the server pop cap, where it says full when there is a queue.

So if they currently have the server pop cap at 20k, ‘high’ would be close to that 20k.

When they gradually lower the server pop cap to around 3k ‘high’ is going to be when it’s close to that 3k, and full would be at 3k.

Mankrik stays at Medium during the weekdays, going to High at night and on weekends. Even at Medium, though, there are always plenty of people around everywhere I go. Just my experience.

They aren’t even close.

I hopped onto a medium/high population server because a friend was on there. I strolled over to the AH and did a quick scan. It had ~40% less items than my high/full server.

This is the first weekend since release that my server hasn’t had a queue. It was never that long to begin with - it topped out at about two hours during prime time.

It’s not a real “problem” now but it is a sign of things to come.

Considering the current “Medium” metric is as much as the “Full” metric in Vanilla, there is no problem.

Unless you’ve managed to alienate the server you are on already, then yeah, you’re screwed.

People are broke and want to get to 40 buy mount.

Where are people getting these made up population numbers?

Are you one of those pserver weirdos who just automatically claim any server with less than 15k people is too low?

I’m not sure you know what dead means.

Keep in mind that Blizzard has said a medium pop realm in Classic has more people than a full realm had in Vanilla. If your realm feels dead as medium pop, it’s possible that you are on a layer that is low population.

My realm is usually at medium population early during the day, but it still feels very much alive and definitely not dead by any means. I do see less people of course than I would at peak hours when it’s at high or full, but still see a lot of people out in the world and SW is still full of people.

Blizzard stated that they changed the classic servers to show poulation based on tbe max server capacity.

people think “medium” is dead because there arent 200 people idling in orgrimmar or ironforge at all hours of the day and night. well guess what, the vast majority of players are still out in the zones leveling. in 1-2 months when the majority of the player base is 60 then you can talk about “dead” servers.
