Mechanic burnout

Nothing is fun about every pack having more mechanics than some raid bosses.

What do you consider as a mechanic? I wouldn’t count your standard hazards that come with nearly every boss and are obvious the moment they’re seen. Mechanics are something unique that needs to be paid attention to, that you would need to explain to someone if they were new to a fight. Granyth in Nokhud has a few abilities, but really only one mechanic.

They hired an old PE teacher whose goal was to get these people dancing again and not be so angry at everything.

Then the PE teacher remember this is Murica and threw dodgeballs at blizzard staff till he was escorted out

Yea. Mechanic pacing is a bit too fast in dungeons on most bosses. Almost all trash mobs could have 1 ability removed from them.

Mechanics are good right now in my opinion. Everything has a nice tell and you dont really need addons at the moment because of that. Now with mythic plus overlap thats a different story but at its base the raid and dungeons seem fine to me.

You know what the problem is?

We are getting old. Wow is not exactly getting new players, and a lot of us are mid 30s or 40s.

Perhaps, but the mechanical vomit is becoming tedious.

I agree before you could avoid this doing world content, now they have to push that nonsense everywhere.

You’re all doing it wrong. I’ve goy my game rigged up to a VR head set. So when we are doing all that moving, I’m doing all that moving IRL. I’ve lost 25 pounds, which is dangerous for an undead. I’ve also now got the capability to chase an ice cream truck for about a mile or two.

Granyth, for example. He may be the simplest boss in the dungeon, but his mechanics are brutal.

  1. Using the spear thrower to interrupt eruption.
  2. Hard switch to add to prevent it from breaking spears. This is a dps check that will wipe you if you fail.
  3. AoE circle around boss that will one shot you, positioning check.
  4. Periodic group wide “pulse” damage that will kill you if you’re not topped off, a healer mechanic in low keys, but in higher keys a shared responsibility.
  5. Like most m+ bosses in this tier, positioning is super important. If the boss isn’t close to the spear thrower, the movement required by the healer means that someone dies to rock throw.

For me personally, the dungeon bosses don’t bother me; I expect bosses to have mechanics to work around. It’s more that each trash pack feels like it has more mechanics happening than old raid bosses did, or happening at a much higher frequency.

I’ve always felt that dungeon trash should be the fun low stress blow mobs up with aoe part of the dungeon… a sort of break between the more mechanic focused bosses. But these days, the entire dungeons can just feel exhausting with no breaks on mechanics.

I understand its a bit of a necessity with m+ and the rotating weeks of fort and tyrannical, but for me the new dungeons just feel more annoying than fun.

Yes, 1000% agree. Remove em. Nuke the site from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

Honestly, although it can frustrate at times, I think mechanic-based difficulty in dungeons is better than the alternative.

I’d much rather have to dodge a few tricks, interrupt some stuff and pop some cooldowns than just jack up the stats a lot further to get the same difficulty.

Because with mechanics, you can react and reduce difficulty via skill.

With stats, you either live or die based on your gear.

It’s called the “Explosive orbs” syndrome, you should feel better by next reset.

As an experienced but currently fairly casual player (I think I’m ok at the game, not amazing, but I take it less seriously than most). I think mythic plus is in a really good state right now. I do not care about being able to get the best gear right away and I really enjoy slowly pushing higher and higher keys with my friends in this game. Currently at about the 12 range. I still feel there is a lot of room to improve my play and our gear levels, so I think given a few weeks of just logging in for 5 or 6 mythics a week we will eventually get keystone master. I don’t really want the content to be nerfed as I feel like there is a lot of skill expression that feels really satisfying.

Agree, feels like blizz is copying Asian mmo’s with the grind, mechanics, competitions, etc rather than focusing on RPG. I wish they’d at least take a page from FFXIV by having a great story along with the mechanics dance.

I feel like this might be more due to the fact that they make every raids mechanic unique in their animation. I refer to things like spread, stack, LoS, etc etc…

They need to streamline more of these animations. They can have differing colors, but a stacker should be similar, dare I say it, how they do them in FFXIV for example. There I said it!

Off the top of my head, Normal mode Terros has:
A soak mechanic with a delayed hit afterwards
AoEs that need to be placed in a specific pattern
AoEs that need to be baited to break the previously dropped AoEs (or the raid wipes from pulsing raidwide damage)
Said breaks also need to be staggered because they do raidwide damage when broken and apply a DoT
A fairly simple “dodge the circles”
A tank swap mechanic
And finally raidwide movement that does technically require baiting

They normalized them back in Legion I think.

group soaks now have a pulsing upside down tornado looking mechanic.

Individual soaks have a pulsing animation that goes away when someone stands in it.
