I've run THE MOTHERLODE!! a bunch of times, but the schematic won't drop.
My engineering isn't maxed out, but it seems people are getting the recipe anyway without maxing it out.
Is there some trick I'm missing, or is it just a low drop rate?
I haven't heard of anyone getting the schematic without maxing engineering first. Not positive on the specifics, but my understanding is that you need 150 engineering, plus the engineering goggles (likely worn), plus a +25 engineering skill potion that drops in the instance and lasts like 2 minutes.
I've heard of tons of people getting it with VERY MINIMAL Engineering. Like... 20 points or less. You also don't need to use the potion to get the schematic, that's only for the one piece you need to actually craft it. However, i came here to post the exact same thing. my Engineering is maxed, i've worn the goggles, and i've run Mythic 0 Motherlode every week since launch, and Mythic+ Motherlode i'd guess about 10 times. i've used reroll tokens on about 80% of the runs. STILL haven't got the schematic. I'm getting tired of the RNG in this game. Especially when this is the ONLY item that Engineering can make gold with. Blizzard, listen right now, and listen good. STOP THINKING RNG MAKES THINGS SPECIAL!!! It doesn't. Having an insanely low drop chance doesn't make something feel better when you get it, the only thing it does is make people feel BAD when they don't get it after MONTHS of farming. All i keep hearing is how "its so easy to make gold in WoW now, its such a joke, lulz" meanwhile my main character has 140k, and that's because i bought a stupid token. Which i will not be doing again. I want to be able to make gold too! FIX THIS!!!
On my alt I got the schematic when he had only 63 skill level in bfa engineering.
I haven't really focussed on farming the mount stuff, but I fully understand the frustration. I got the reeves combat unit item in Legion and one 1 character it took 2 or 3 tries in Ulduar and Siege of Ogrimmaar to get the items from those raids. On another character it took 5 months of weekly running those raids to get the 2 items. And SoO I would do on every difficulty level.
Some serious OCD going at the end.
I used the damn thing once and ran around Dalaran with it. hahahahahaha

How many kids you got? You could have 1 less... just saying...
TBH i don’t really care about having the mount, its just another Mimiron’s Head pretty much, but its the only way to make big amounts of gold at once for me. i don’t want to switch professions after investing almost half a million gold to level engineering, plus i have different professions on all my alts so i don’t want to constantly switch them all to what’s currently profiting most.
It’s just becoming increasingly frustrating because it seems with every patch they add MORE RNG. In Legion with the artifact relics MY GOD… RNG on top of RNG. You have to hope a relic drops, then you have to hope its for the right slot, then you have to hope it had the right traits, then you had to hope it had the right NETHERLIGHT TRAITS, oh the headache…
Also, i’m never lucky when it comes to things like this. I don’t get any rare mounts, no rare pets, in fact i hardly ever even get gear. I run COUNTLESS Mythic+ and a lot of times i either don’t get gear at the end, or its for the ONE slot i have a high ilvl piece in, EVERY TIME.
please, just PLEASE, stop making the game luck based… i just want to DO A SPECIFIC THING, and GET A SPECIFIC THING. Guaranteed. Not luck. Not reroll. Just… GET IT…
