Maybe Blizzard devs aren't the problem but the player base is

Have you ever thought that maybe the reason this game isn’t the same as it was in Vanilla is because the majority of people who now play this game make the game unenjoyable? Back in Vanilla, everyone was new, willing to try new things, and had no idea about meta/parsing etc…

The reason WoW classic and SOM are a fail are because of the player base.

1.) People don’t even play the classes they enjoy, because it’s all about topping damage meters. Rather than just playing what you enjoy, you have to have the icy veins guide spec for your class and follow everything to a T. Heaven forbid you spend 10 extra minutes clearing a raid and enjoying your time and your guild.

2.) Players who are “supposed to be good” at the game always take the easy way have you ever noticed? First, they needed world buffs, but they used the excuse that they just wanted to be done faster. Now, they need to join Alliance because of Paladin buffs. Imagine being so good at a 16 year old game that you never challenge yourself and always take the freebies and use the excuse it’s because of time.

3.) The faction imbalance is due to the player base being toxic. You ever wonder why servers get imbalanced? It’s because of griefing. Cool, you can camp out BRD as Alliance and kill people 10 times on their way to BRD. Yes, you can kill people every time they land or try to take a flight path in Kargath. Do these people realize that it actually ruins the server and causes even more of an imbalance? Rather than a healthy 50/50 environment, people create on their own an environment where people just quit or move on to another server. This isn’t Blizzards fault. It’s the communities fault.

4.) The whole parse meta ruined the entire game. They might as well call this game World of RogueCraft or World of Warriorcraft. I mean, once again, people are such good players at this game, but they all gravitate towards what’s easy. You know what I would respect more? Someone who is a Boomkin and holds their own in PVP. BGs have no healers anymore, its all just Warrior and Rogues. Is this Blizzards fault? No, it’s the players who always take the easy way out.

Go ahead, flame me all you want. The truth is, the reason WoW Vanilla was better, is because people in general, were better human beings.

I challenge you all to find it in your hearts to make this game enjoyable again that we all have a special place in our heart for. It’s not about topping DPS or Healing meters. Your tinder date could care less about your parse log. Play what makes you happy. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

In closing, ask yourself why this game was so much different back when it launched vs now, with basically the exact same game. It’s not the devs. It’s the people and the toxic environment they have created and continue to fuel.

Let go, learn, and live your best life.

Yeah.

That’s it.

Both are true.

The player base will never be happy because players largely observe only what effects themselves (which is a reflection of the real world anyway.)

As for Blizzard, they’re basically a clown show that hasn’t figured out the mindnumbingly obvious about said player base. Therefore they go on to make stupid changes like double decay and the like.

very true, OP.

but around these parts that opinion is a bad thing to say…

I agree OP. Obviously the solution is to change the hearts and minds of every single individual player. Should be easy. In fact, due to this one post, I bet they’re already different. Tomorrow we’re going to wake up and see a whole new world.

Thanks OP.

You’re a life saver.

Of course the player base wants it easy. They’ve grown up with a lot of ‘smart’ devices that make things easy irl. Smart devices do their thinking for them so naturally they’ll adhere to things like the Gospel according to Icy Veins. You can hardly buy anything now that isn’t touched by this marketing philosophy of ‘use computer technology to make life easy for the consumer’. What I perceive changed at Blizzard was the transition from creative talent to marketing talent so they can cater more to this type of consumer in the way of qol, in-game merchandise, and p2w. WoW’s heyday is over but they still have to turn a profit.

Spot on OP. There are many more examples of the players sucking the life out of the game but your assertions are correct.

I can say that OP’s explanation fits why I couldn’t get in to Classic.

I started playing back during the original release, and played steady until Cata. Classic is what brought me back to the game after all this time. Despite the nostalgia I was never #nochanges because I remembered things like the original multi-day AVs losing their charm really fast.

I was really excited to replay the game I enjoyed for so long, but one thing after another left bad tastes in my mouth, and they were all player created. The lack of patience with every aspect of the game wasn’t a big surprise, but raid logging world buffs was 100% the reason I went to try Retail (and actually enjoy it. Don’t hate)

I enjoy classic now more as essentially a single player experience than I did during the main run. I thought SOM would be more enjoyable without raid logging and a more focused player base, but now it’s so focused around honor that I just can’t get in to it again.

Criticize blizzard all you want, but as had been said in this thread already, times have changed and this game has been greatly changed from the outside more than the inside.

I wrote this a while ago

I would only note that not all the player base is like that, nor is it a problem that only affects WoW.

That being said, you listed many behaviors/personality types that I avoid like the plague when playing.

And you’re still wrong.

I’mma tell the truth… I didn’t read it.

I’m just making a pretty safe assumption based on past performance.

Way to be wrong two posts in a row.

You’re assuming your assumption is safe… Perhaps you should just go back to bed.

Be nice or I’m going to cough on you.

I can’t smell my coffee. ;(
