So, I may be the only one in this scenario, but I have been testing out Hpal in PTR and it feels very off currently and I don’t know where to particularly pinpoint why other than the infusion of light change.
I don’t have beta so I can’t say whether or not it’ll remain this way, and they could very well change something before Slands drops, but even from the people I’ve watched test out HPal also say it feels a bit clunky in playstyle.
I don’t so much know how Hpal is preforming in PvE currently, so this feedback is purely more of a PvP standpoint, especially in comparison to how the other classes feel or look from what I’ve seen. The class simply feels extremely more slow than how it is currently, and don’t get me wrong I feel like it could definitely work but with how quick paced everyone else seems, it definitely just doesn’t seem up to par with everyone else just yet.
Like I said, this is my own opinion, and I was simply wondering if anyone else felt that way. Even in a PvE standpoint since I haven’t heard a whole lot about HPal in PvE perspectives. I do however hope they revert back the infusion changes they made.

It’s not just you.
Every single high ranked PvP and PvE Holy Paladin all the way down to the casual playing Holy Paladins have all voiced their concerns with our current Shadowlands situation.
Blizzard doesn’t care.
As it stands currently we will not be viable in Raids, Ranked PvP, or High Mythic Key Dungeons.
We are D.O.A.

Yep, think its nigh time I join the evil community that is priest, they seem to have everything going on for them and they are the real damage to heal healer.

Well, raids maybe not. As long as the group doesn’t have another paladin - its almost required to have one for Devo Aura (especially now its 40yard range, lol).
And from what I’ve seen, ret sucks and prot isn’t Blood or Brewmaster and by default isn’t that great for raid.
Just makes sense now to bring a hpal, if only so you have access to freedom/bop/devo, which have all proven time and time again to be raid savers. But are you okay with the fact you’re only brought because of these things? Probably not.
You’re also likely right about the rest though, pvp sucks having holy power tied to crusader strike but having slow casted heals while you’re already in melee (interrupts? Free real estate!). In M+ it could be worse, you could be a holy priest! On the real though, Druids are better melee healers in cat form somehow. If you ain’t a druid or disc in shadowlands you probably aren’t viable, as it currently stands…

As it currently stands my roster has about 4 paladins…So, sadly me as a hpal doesn’t seem as though it’ll mean too much. Not that those 4 paladins are Hpals as we try to refrain from major class stacking in the healer category, it still means that my toolkit means slightly less as there’s already 3 other paladins that can fill the role of whatever toolkit said paladin brings.
However, I did hear disc was about the only healer people will likely want going into SLands and that seems rather disheartening as an hpal main.
I’m glad that I don’t seem to be the only one with this concern? I had thought perhaps I simply wasn’t toying around with the right combo of talent choices but even for the ones I thought hpals would want it still felt rather…weird and extremely slow especially when you compare it to current standards. Like I said, I do hope blizzard cares and fixes some of the more glaring issues (particularly for me it feels like infusion is the biggest issue but I could be wrong). Though you may be right on the caring thing.
they nerfed holy shock by 33% to justify adding in word of glory.
or, they nerfed our bread and butter healing spell to shoehorn in WoG.
it is going to feel very tacked on during both wrath or crusader, and will be even more awkward with lust or holy avenger at the same time.
i think my biggest worry will be that outside of any glimmer build we are going to have mana issues now, thanks to the mana cost added to crusader strike, thanks to glimmer. is it worth it to crusader strike in dungeons, if it means you need to eat, thus slowing down the group for you relatively low damage.

I was really excited for holy power and wog returning but with holy power generation being tied to crusader strike and the infusion of light changes, I’m not sure if I’ll be playing mine or not.

I really hope they significantly reduce or just remove the cost for CS. I don’t have the beta, but the more I read, the more I’m convinced that Holy is in the worst place going into SL for three main reasons.
-
Holy power introduction basically gives us controllable procs for (currently) powerful instant heals. These do not synergize with anything other than mastery I believe.
-
The Glimmer playstyle being brought forward with a talent is forcing a choice on players between a classic playstyle and the Glimmer playstyle, with the latter heavily favorable so far. Both of these play styles are incurring costs on the spec and they do not synergize between each other at ALL.
-
HP generation seems to be a mess. Whether being too little (classic) or too costly (Glimmer).
All I want to see is that the developers have a vision for this spec and how it is supposed to play. I know most people don’t level as a healing spec, but I think healers deserve to have some of the same basic capabilities as all specs, namely:
-
They should be able to solo content that is meant to be soloable
-
Playing their spec while they level should be teaching them how to play it effectively.
As it stands I think some of the changes with Holy power will enhance the first point, but the second point is a mess. All the components of the spec should lead toward making the way it plays more fun or interesting, I’m not against choice! The way it stands now though, it is not a choice of what to play for doing your role well. It is a weird grafting of a playstyle into a spec and then warping it to maintain balance between the super charged ability that has been grafted in.
