Any chance we can get the info on what the maximum guild size is for Classic please. Will it be vanilla 500 or retail 1000?
I would assume Vanilla 500.
I’m pretty sure there was no cap in vanilla. Caps were added along with guild perks, presumably to prevent a server from being all one giant guild.
Interesting,…anyone else with information on this subject?
Pretty sure the only limit in vanilla was that the guild roster would only display a max of 500 members. You could tag as many as you wanted.
After a very vocal community outpouring and harsh response to [Blizzard's announcement] that guilds would be hard-capped at 600 members, the policy has been re-evaluated and the cap has been raised to 1,000 members per guild in [patch 4.0.1].
“In vanilla guild had no cap on members but the guild window only showed 500 members. In cataclysm they capped it at 1,000. Bigger guilds could stay together but couldnt invite more untill they dropped under 1,000”.~freeish posted may 27,2019
Pretty sure Classicsob is correct with this quote.
I’m a long time listener of The Instance podcast, and I remember when Cataclysm capped it at 1000, they talked about their guild AIE (largest guild across all realms) having to split off into multiple guilds, and use the mod “Green Wall” to connected the chat logs.
EDIT: Having said that, i have no idea what they have done for classic. I kinda hope it’s unlimited, but also the guild window will show more than 500
Bashiok posted this in a blue post on 5 Oct 2010:
We will be introducing a new, hard cap of 600 members in a single guild for Cataclysm. This function will go live with patch 4.0.1 and is already live on the beta and PTR's.
As most of you already know, we have supported a soft cap of 500 members in a guild since World of Warcraft launched. We have allowed guilds to exceed the 500 limit up until now since being in a guild really just amounted to ranks and chat channels. With the advent of the new guild system in Cataclysm we are tracking many more things on each individual player in a guild and in order to support that, we need to limit the amount of members to a reasonable level.
This is what the “very vocal community outpouring and harsh response” was to.
The “soft cap” was a just a limitation on how many members would show in the guild roster, which was interesting because not every guild member saw the same exact roster.
