Max background fps

Small issue. Documenting for anyone else encountering it.

Max background fps does nothing unless max foreground fps is also enabled.

Noticed the gfx fans going mental while AFK alt tabbed in ardenweald.

Yes, I can confirm this is an issue. If you just checkmark Max Foreground FPS Toggle, when going over to your 2nd screen the Max Background FPS limit still kicks in even if its not checked. Also, Max Foreground is capping my fps at 119 regardless if I set it higher. My monitor is 165hz, so I normally set it at 163 max and almost always have well over 119 up until today. Uncapping my FPS shows that I am indeed getting well over 119.

Update: After setting my max fps for the game in Nvidia Control panel to 163hz, then reloading the game, I was able to check the Max Foreground FPS Toggle again and get my normal 163 fps instead of capping at 119. Not sure if the Nvidia setting did that, but most likely not. It may have simply been reloading the game that fixed that. The Max Background FPS toggle is still broken though, as you have to have max foreground selected or the background one wont work.

Having the same issue, background FPS not working as intended. Also, checking both increases my in-game GPU utilization by about 25%, regardless of what it’s set to.

Thank you for posting this, I thought I was just slowly losing my grip on reality. Can confirm Max Background FPS is indeed not functioning even when checked.

I often tab over to my other monitor, or play another game while waiting in long queues and I noticed my video card just kept going to town. Wasn’t aware of checking max foreground, but if Velystra is right and it does increase utilization regardless of the setting, then it isn’t much of a solution.

I hope blizz addresses this while they’re putting out the other fires.
