Maw, Shadowlands, and Fun

So I found BFA fun, played the entire expansion, didn’t take a break. I realize there were some problems with it and didn’t do all things in it but I keep busy with it and there are really things I wanted to do but didn’t get to before this expansion came out.

This expansion, I really liked many parts of it but I’ve run out of fun things to do. And what the heck is up with the maw, first it seems like collecting the souls became more tedious. Seems like they despawn more quickly and rarely do I get to break the container myself. It probably takes 5 times as long to collect all the souls now.

This week it looks like maw mob spawn is turbocharged. Not to mention by the time I collect the 20 souls I’m right at Annoy level 3 and just leave. I’m spending maybe an hour in game once a week AT MOST now when in BFA I was in at least that much every day. I’m considering taking a break. Most of the time when I take a break from a game I don’t go back.

I guess I’m hoping someone can mention something that is being added soon that will be fun.

Unpopular Opinion: The Maw is best endgame zone Blizzard has ever made.

Tbh the maw wasn’t ready for release. We are kind of still beta testing it. Torghast too.

It sucks - but I think most people are optimistic activision will figure it out.

What did you like doing in bfa? I’m like you - played bfa entire time through and loved it. I enjoyed mythic+ the most and it’s still around - so I am too.

Maybe try something new til the patch comes out and hopefully that will keep you invested :green_heart:

I really enjoy the Maw. I like the chance at losing something on death, although I think the souls grant too much Jailer agro, but that’s only really a problem the first day of the reset. The other days I’m in the Maw I can spend a good amount of time there before I’m stacking the “kill you now” debuff at level 5.

I haven’t noticed any change with the souls. If you’re not there during a primetime hour, aka there aren’t a ton of people around, then the soul prisons will respawn slower. But that’s always been the case, it’s not new. Same with mob respawn – on a Tuesday afternoon, the mobs respawn a lot faster than a Friday afternoon when most players have done their Maw time.

Same. I know a lot of people hate that, but having a zone where I can’t autopilot everything is refreshing. Shame we’ll probably never see anything like it again given how vocal people are against it.

I go in at 7:39 pm today and get 3 things done in 11 minutes and now my eye of the jailor is above 3. So I leave because it is annoying. That’s one of the things I don’t like. People were saying in chat, can someone come help with this or that and I would but it is too annoying to deal with eye of the jailor and the potential to lose stygia. The regular mobs make it enough of a challenge for me without having to watch out for those other things.

I did the quest to collect 20 souls last night, and also killed two bonus objectives. By then I was almost at tier 4, so I just left and didn’t do anything else.

The most effective way to get souls is to only free them after you hit Eye 5. Each soul released gives 100 points of jailer hate (each eye level is made of 1000 points), but if you free them when you’re already at Eye 5, you gain zero hate instead because you’re already maxxed.

To the OP, I’ve been doing the Maw every day since launch and I haven’t noticed anything different in the mob spawns this week.

More tips:

  1. Go with a group of people you know. I with a buddy every day and it’s a huge benefit.
  2. Don’t fight things unless you have to. Just run past them. Running with tanks is great, so is mass CC. I drop Ox statue all the time to distract things that we just run past while they beat on it. Druids are great for mass root. Anything with a knockback is also great. Stuns/fears/disorients… just run past stuff. Don’t fight it, that will only give you unnecessary jailer hate (killing blows give 6 hate each).
  3. The area around The Tremaculum is made much easier by the teleport up to Dartanos, which dumps all threat. Distract the trash while you kill an elite, then drop threat afterwards so you never have to kill it. Do your pulls using that threat dump as a base of operations.
  4. Grappling Hooks are fantastic in Perdition Hold. You can grapple up to the ramparts and run back and forth until stuff drops aggro. Also, once the hook connects, you can move around (to avoid tower bombardments, etc.) and the grappling hook will still pull you up.
  5. Max out your jailer hate every day. Do the harder areas first (Perdition Hold, then Beastwarrens) while you have low hate, then easier stuff as it goes up. We max out our jailer hate every day and then keep killing til we get 10 stacks.
  6. A big time saver is to use the many teleports to just go back to Venari’s place rather than run across the zone. Use garrison or Dalaran hearthstone -> Orgrimmar -> Oribos -> Venari.
  7. Gliders from high spots are another good navigation tool. The top of Dartanos’ tower, again, is great here as you can get to anywhere up the River/mountain area.
  8. Several elites are along the riverfront on these platforms, you can kill one then glider over the river and then back to the riverfront to the next elite, skipping all the trash.
  9. The current Venari weekly that gives the Invisibility Cloak in Perdition Hold is a GREAT way to do daily quests there. The Invisibility Cloak can be used in combat and drops all threat when used. On a 20 second cooldown. Just grab the quest from Venari, go kill the dude to get the cloak, then DON’T TURN THE QUEST IN UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT and enjoy your free cloak all week long.

This. I keep telling myself every week to do souls one day and weeklies another day. I don’t listen to myself, but…

Like I said above, just do the souls after you’re at Eye 5.

It’s more fun that way, too.

Yeah I generally do souls after weeklies. It’s not a huge deal, but it is annoying when someone trains a mob with aoe on me and I can’t heal myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

If they fix scaling in old content, that would be fun.

A lot of us tried to warn everyone that Blizzard was going to botch the level squish, but people kept shouting us down and saying no everything would be perfect. /shrug

The WoW community has become soft and entitled. Death is simultaneously never supposed to happen and also supposed to be completely consequence free, it’s kind of insane. I really hate it. Anything interesting has to be instanced off because god forbid something exciting exist in the overworld that might actually spook you and cause you to pay attention to the game.

What’s funny is that people keep screaming they want world quests where you just have to kill 1 guy.

The Maw is full of them. In fact, that’s most of what The Maw is.

Level 130 supposedly was going to be to intimdating to all those millions of new players that were going to flock to this game last I heard

I like level 60 more than 130. And I don’t care about legacy content.

So yeah, I think the level squish is good. I feel bad for people who got shafted, but not enough to say they shouldn’t have done it.

I to fear big numbers
