See the thing there is Torgast seems to of been designed expressly as Zovaal’s prison. It is festooned with domination magic, which didn’t exist before he was put in his 4 billion year long time out to think about what he did.
That leads me to think the Maw was… nothing. It was an empty abyss of nothingness that souls were cast into to be unmade.
