Mastiff, tamed in SM during Cata, turned into a red hyena after this last patch

For over a decade before this patch, my pet was a tan Mastiff from Scarlet Monastery. After this patch, it is now a red hyena. Will this be fixed? I am somewhat attached to my tan Mastiff after 12 years together.

This is a bit worrisome, I have some pets that I’m rather attached to and would hate to have them just change form randomly one day

I checked Petopia and it still shows Mastiffs under the Hounds family, one of which (Red Mastiff) seems to be from SM dungeons. Is that the pet you had? Hyenas aren’t even in the Hounds family if that’s really what the new model shows. That would be quite a reclassification if an intentional change with the patch.

I would open a ticket and try to get a GM to help figure out what happened if you’re sure you have the right pet summoned.

That is exactly the pet I had. Its extremely weird. I have a ticket open, hopefully it can get resolved. I wonder if it has something to do with the new SM rework.

" I know it’s probably been said, but I’m so sorry to hear about this change. It looks like if you tamed it between patches 4.0.3a (model update on 11/23/2010) and 5.0.3 (removed from game on 8/28/2012)and it was the NPC named “Scarlet Tracking Hound” and when it was tamed it is the model #4304 you fall into a really small and niche situation. If all the above is true, then here’s my theory:

During Cataclysm’s world revamp, some hyena models were revamped to a mastiff model with the same model ID, in this case the ‘Scarlet Tracking Hound’. In MOP, the old SM was replaced in its entirety (all four wings retired and replaced with 2 dungeons) with this NPC ID (4304) being retired.

With the (speculated) return of SM of Old, they likely readded and overwrote the models in SM including the Hyena model. So if this is (and it’s likely) NPC ID: 4304, it’s probably gonna stay a Hyena because that’s what the game files now pull from. Until recently, they probably still had the World Revamp SM ID model linked to the Mastiff in the files until this patch."

Unfortunately with the way they changed the generic hunter NPC ID’s for pets in Shadowlands, I wasn’t able to find a way to confirm this specific NPC’s ID (to confirm if it is the Scarlet Training Hound).
It is likely this reverted an old problem where people’s Hyena’s turned into Mastiff’s, but poses a new problem for anyone that wanted to retain their mastiff skin =[

But with the way some hunter’s Scarlet Tracking Hound/Hyena’s were changed in Cataclysm to Mastiff’s, we’re seeing an 11 year old issue pop back up

What would be great is for hunters to have the same thing Warlock’s have in the barber shop to use older models for the same Pet. that way changes like this are transient and hunters can keep their preferred model of the specific NPC ID
