Hello i was wondering what would be the best % to have on mastery. I had 62% before but lot of people tell me to lower it down because of the stat penalty, so i get a little confused since our pets and shadow damage scales with mastery. Hope you guys can giveme a hand!.
After 25% from mastery rating it takes 10% more stats to get 1% and there are some other breakpoints where it costs 20% more, 30% more and 40% more of the stat. If you arent at 25% mastery from rating then you dont have to worry about any penalties.
Currently i have 49%, check a post from wow head with the penalty % but i dont know if this scales the same with a dk.
From 0 to 30%, there’s no penalty.
From 30% to 39%, there’s a 10% penalty.
From 39% to 47%, there’s a 20% penalty.
From 47% to 54%, there’s a 30% penalty.
From 54% to 66%, there’s a 40% penalty.
From 66% to 126%, there’s a 50% penalty.
all the stats have a DR after 30%
It had changed from when I read it. Last update on this post was 10/21/2020 that has it listed at 25% is the first breakpoint.
0-25% no penalty
25-34% 10%
34-42% 20%
42-49% 30%
and so on and so on. Looks like the same author, so something must have changed along the way somewhere.
Standard diminishing returns only applies to crit, vers and haste. Mastery DRs are different for every class. For frost DKs DR starts at 76% (according to the DK discord) meaning 16% base mastery + 60% from stats. FDKs get 1% per 17.5 mastery rating so 60%*17.5rating/%=1050 rating.
According to the DK discord unholy is 68.4%, which is also 1050 mastery rating. (19.45rating/%, 14.4% base)
Thank you!
I use an addon called True Stat Values that just shows you in game when you hover over the value whether it is diminished and by how much.
Sim it at 62% mastery is my second higher dps stats increase, crit is my first but in practice still feels inferior.
I swapped some stuff around to lower my crit by 2% but gain 12%?ish mastery. I like crit because it makes the spec feel smoother since more KM procs means more full damage Obliterates and more mastery means those Obliterates hit harder along with pretty much everything in your entire kit, and it scales really well with having the least stat requirements to getting 1% increase in mastery.
